Really looking foward to SNL..I hope he does "1000 Deaths"..Would love to see him and Jesse trading nasty guitar licks back and forth. Hopefully he'll do "The Charade" also.

Really digging "Black Messiah"...Between this and Funkadelic's "Shake The Gate" I'm really happy right now.

I love how D is so anti sellout when it comes to his style on this record, and yet he manages to get so much hype and love. This is great for music as a whole.

If i heard the bass track solo'd and and it was cool

i would wonder whyit got buried in the mix along with the vocals

and i'd probably think at best it was a nice Sly stone tribute.

So? Are you suggesting that you need to have the technicalities of Stanley Clarke or Louis Johnson to be funky on bass?

In an interview during the Rave era, Prince once said to a reporter somewhere along the lines of "if you try to solo Lenny Kravitz's drums track on Are You Gonna Go My Way, he's not that great on drums, but he's funky."

ummm... i was responding to Ego101 saying nothing about the song is funky

my point was that i bet if you were to solo the bass track, my guess is you'd be saying 'damn that shit's funky'

.

So, just as a heads up guys, apparently it was Voodoo's 15th anniversary yesterday, and to celebrate Okayplayer decided to release excerpts from Questlove and Tina Ferris' (tour manager) Voodoo tour diaries. Not the most earth shattering revelations, but a few nice little tidbits. Apparently more are coming shortly.

...and what did Jesse say?

D played that guitar in that "Finding The Funk" doc. I think he played "Tear The Roof Off"..Sounded pretty good. Those old G&L guitas are nice.

This gal has skills. Morgan James did the whole new album D'angelo live. She played Teena Marie in Motown The Musical:

NO THANK YOU. Can't stand that chick. She's not that talented and lord knows she sounds like a frog when she sings. I'll keep my mouth shut over how Kendra has gotten to where she's gotten. It's a shame with someone with her ego is getting all this play. I wish Angie Stone would work with D again. Now THAT is a talented woman.

Your dismissiveness towards Kendra is bewildering given that she co-wrote the lyrics for eight of Black Messiah's 12 songs, an album you've characterized as being exceptional.

Lyrics is one thing, MUSIC, the actual sounds are another and I don't like her lyrics, don't like her "musicianship." There are some tracks on the cd I don't like at all. When all is said and done, you stil hear more of D than her.

I doubt Angie will ever work with D again, after he dumped her at the height of his fame. When she didn't fit the stereotype of arm candy..She was also carrying his baby and reduced to being hidden in a car following him to the grammy's while he attended with a model. Angie was devastated .

Anywho the beautiful Kendra is following me on twitter. biggrin

Angie and D reunited-they sang together onstage this past October at Soulfest in Australia. Google and you will see pics. He held her hand it looks like things are fine between them.

Yeah I believe he apologized publicly for that incident in particular, which probably went a long way towards them being able to reconcile.

Back in 2012 when D'angelo was featured in GQ his trainer stated that he was 40 lbs from getting D'angelo back to his Voodoo era sexiness. So I wonder what happened. Does anyone secretly wish D were hot again so he could give the likes of Justin Timberlake some much needed commercial R&B run for their money?

Besides tonights SNL appearance there's been no promotion. No video. No late night performances.

I already knew all about that! D didn't know she or Anthony Hamilton was coming. It was a surprise! I'm only referring to them working in the studio again. But who knows? D has found other inspirations now. Angie gave him more confidence and got him through his very first album. In more ways than one. biggrin
