You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I am listening to these three a lot lately. Not just pleasurably listening to them, but playing them constantly - like a fiend, or someone who just discovered the concept of music. And I am loving it! Give them a listen some time...

Still enjoying most of AOA by Prince but still HATE the first song Art Official Cage.

Still enjoying Banks´s debut album, the extended version.

Still listening to D´Angelo´s Black Messiah nonstop.

Still loving Vocal Deep House every day.

Still listening to that Andy Allo song with Miguel Migs (This Feeling).

Still enjoying lots of other Miguel Migs mixes and songs.

Still listening to lots of old school Turkish music.

I have no idea what you´d like. Any particular genre you are interested in ?

These days I listen to Baris Manco´s classic songs again, and lots and lots of Zeki Müren. Zeki Müren was a gay icon, he dressed a bit like Liberace after they met in Las Vegas, and he is regarded as one of the best Turkish singers. He passed away in 1996.

This is Baris Manco and his band Kurtalan Ekspres. I think he died of a heart attack while being on Viagra with two hot girls.

This is Baris Manco´s interpretation of an old Turkish folk song....sounds pretty funky to me.

This is one of his songs with very profound lyrics:

Some Zeki Müren classic:

Zeki Müren´s 29-plus minute song Kahir Mektubu (it´s about a letter wink ). "The Letter Of Pain"

It´s like 4 or 5 songs in one. Great lyrics, great vocal delivery. Greeks love him ,too. wink

This is a great song about fake friends and how they backstab you when you least expect it.

Dost Bildiklerim (= Those I Thought As Friends Of Mine)

Enjoy!

I also like newer songs but these days I´m in some old school mood. lol

edit: When I´m stressed out I listen to "Türk Sanat Müzigi", which has very relaxing qualities. Türk Sanat Müzigi is a very old , classical style, and that particular style is very, very soothing. Many Turkish singers have tried to sing in the Türk Sanat Müzigi style, but only a few have been successful. Check out Zeki Müren´s renditions of some Türk Sanat Müzigi classics on Youtube. Very good for your soul.

Also check out the instrumental Turkish music of Mr.Göksel Baktagir. You might like it.

This one is even better:

I literally listen to just about any genre. I grew up going to international schools and now I work in an international organization where my entire department is from different countries, so I've grown up extremely open minded to new sounds. The only turkish singer I'm familiar with is Tarkan, because I went to see him once when I lived in Belgium. I never really got into him though, perhaps because I probably thought his sound was a bit too over-the-top for me at the time. I like the Baris Manco videos you posted, I like the vibe of them. Zeki Muren sounds interesting, but very melodramatic.. It actually reminds me of old school latin baladas romanticas from the 70's where this type of really melodramatic song composition was really popular. The only other turkish guy that I actually used to listen to when I listened to more urban music was Kool Savas from Germany, but he doesnt ever rap in turkish. But thanks for introducing me to Baris, I will see if I can pick up something from him.

Göksel Baktagir´s music is very much related to Turk Sanat Müzigi, he incorporates many elements from it.

Zeki Müren´s Türk Sanat songs are probably more to your liking, less melodramatic than his own hits (TSM is a genre, and sometimes he would give TSM concerts where he sounded much calmer).

Anyway, here´s a TSM mix that you may or may not like. I don´t like all songs in it but some are quite nice.

I´m familiar with Kool Savas. Two of my friends know him and worked with him. He mainly does German rap, and quite well. wink

Also check out Mercan Dede and his instrumental music. He does classic Sufi meditative music and is also an Electro DJ , I think he often djs in Istanbul and Toronto. You might like Mercan Dede..nice, soothing instrumentals, but can get boring after a few hours of listening. Very relaxing though.
