Is Sisquo A Legend.

He had a huge song that impacted America. He's a multi instrmentalist singer! his songs have been covered for years and years. And his two albums were huge and made big impact on the culture hill. Not to mention his work with Dru Hill! like their cover of How Deep Is Your Love. And the feature on Wild Wild West which is a classic of course.

Would you say he is a legend? when did he become legend? everyone even copies his look now. He obviously deserves his status in the legends book.

The only influence he seemed to have had back then from my perspective was every black guy I knew during my 8th grade year in school decided to spray-paint their hair silver, and you better believe I busted their chops then and occasionally still do now about it. And besides, wtf did Dru Hill do that great groups like New Edition and even Jodeci hadn't already done (and much better I might add) before them?? I gotta tell ya Guns, I always read your threads and usually agree with what you say but this one is both hilarious AND perplexing! Unless of course you're being sarcastic..but sometimes it's hard to tell if somebody is being sarcastic online or even through text messages lol. biggrin

Except he's not a one hit wonder. He had numerous of hits with Dru Hill & was lead or co-lead on just about all of them & matter of fact Incomplete was bigger than Thong Song & Got To Get It was a hit as well. Even though they weren't big as those his songs Can I Live & Dance For Me are were hits & his new song Lips is rising up the charts now

I actually think Sisqo is one of the most underrated singers of his generation.. Dru Hill's body of work is as strong as any 90's male R&B group and the first Solo record was brilliant. I think his appearence/persona maybe take away from his crediblity as an artist? And i suppose most people just think "Thong Song" when his name is mentioned (although for me that song is GENIUS and has maybe the best key change in pop music history)

Of course this is entirely subjective, but no fucking way is sisquo in the same league as (pre-meltdown) Lauryn Hill and especially D'Angelo.

Dude could have gone care he didn't let the "return of the Dragon" semi-flop bring him down... He had a distinct look, voice, and the Chinese-inspired stuff...
Dude just disappeared like "Poof!". He's no legend but if he had made another "Thong Song" or two he would have solidified his place as a landmark artist of the 2000s...

He didn't disappear folks just think he did after the solo thing he was with back where he began with Dru Hill & touring and doing shows with them & on the side solo until they all got a new distribution to do new music which is happening now

The Thong Song killed his career. I liked Dru Hill. They werr easily the best of the crop of RnB groups that came out around that times (Jagged Edge, 112, Playa, Ideal.)

When he went solo, he had a few nice jams than Thong Song came out and messes him up. He's was on his way to being better than Usher and Ginuwine.

.

I don't think that's what happened, though. It's not that 'Thong Song' killed his career (arguably, it catapulted him into the public eye as a solo artist), it's that he tried it again the next year with a lead single ('Dance For Me') that was way too similar to 'Thong Song'. He even teases this in the opening dialogue of 'Dance For Me'. 'Return of Dragon' came far too close after 'Unleash' and didn't indicate any musical evolution. Compare this to both Usher and Ginuwine, who had a bit more breathing time between their respective releases, allowing each of their albums in that time period to have its own tone and style.

.

'Return of Dragon' was going head to head with Usher's 8701, and it was quite clearly the inferior product. After 'Can I Live' failed to leave an impact, Sisqo kind of abandoned his solo career and returned to Dru... at a time when all of the mid-90s R&B male vocal groups were losing their steam.

.

Usher managed to stay relevant/popular in the mid-2000s by hooking up with Lil' Jon and infusing crunk into his sound, as well as releasing an album that was significantly more mature and intimate than 8701. Ginuwine, like Sisqo, made some poor career choices and likewise faded into obscurity. They're both doing all right in 'R&B throwback' gigs and tours, though.

.

I don't think Sisqo's ego around that time helped his career either. lol He started beefing with other R&B singers and proclaiming himself the best.

He wasn't beefing with other singers that was a misconception he said it on breakfast club. R. Kelly dissed him first then Usher called him little midget man one time but he & Usher cool now & he said he don't have issues with R. Kelly no more but at the time being young he was upset R. Kelly came at him on a Nas song
