Jermaine Dupri loses his Atlanta mansion to foreclosure

I feel bad 4 the guy but we have 2 learn form others mistakes and NOT repeat them:

Jermaine Dupri loses his Atlanta mansion to foreclosure

dupri home

He tried for years to keep his northwest Atlanta mansion. But Jermaine Dupri’s has lost his former home to foreclosure, according to Fulton County legal notices.

The producer, songwriter and performer owes $2.5 million on the 9,441-square-foot home, but is unable to make the monthly payments, according to a mortgage foreclosure notice. The property is valued at nearly $3.7 million, Fulton tax records showed.

It's never a good thing when someone loses their home, but in this case it's about buying something you simply can't afford. I'm sure he made millions over the years, but why didn't he buy something smaller and more afforfable? Also, why didn't he pay it outright when the millions were rolling in? Some folks never learn. In order to maintain a home like this, one would have to be bringing in millions every year and that's on top of the cost of buying the house in the first place. So, if he's learned anything he should go buy a home that's about 2,000 sq ft and pay for it outright.

Damn! With all of the money he has made. He moved into this house in 2005 during the time Usher's Confessions and Mariah's EOM were out. He produced both of those huge albums. He had to have made millions off of them. So why not just buy the damn house? I just don't get it! I guess he better hit Mariah or Usher up. Hell, maybe Janet will loan him some money just for old time sakes, since he never seemed to have had any money troubles while they were together. Jermaine get your shit together and stop frontin'. Your not JayZ and your not P Diddy so stop trying to live like them.

Well, since you asked... biggrin

In days of yore, (you remember those?) It was necesary for the lord of the manor to retain dozens of servants on site to perform menial tasks such as actually cutting some barley to make ale, shoeing his horses for a journey, emptying the chamber pots or running down and killing the odd sheep to satisfy the master's craving for a leg of mutton, for example. nod Additionally, most royalty and nobility had a habit of routinely pissing off the commoners and thus, lived in fear of the occasional revolt, thus knights had to be retained for security as well.

Not to mention assorted ladies in waiting, court jesters, poor relations, wives, children and their nannies, etc.

In those days, many of these folk actually lived in the castle/mansion of their liege lord, so he needed a really big house with the servant's quarters far enough away so as not to be seen, heard or smelled until they were summoned.

So I would say it's a holdover from the olden days when the rich had to maintain a large household, which is no longer the case most of the time. Nowadays one has only to dispatch their housekeeper to yonder Walmart to purchase ale and mutton. lol

While this is somewhat true, Jermaine Dupri wrote a ton of R&B songs without samples in them. As the writer and producer of so many songs including some of the biggest hits of the last 22 years, I am surprised it has come to foreclosure. I assume he has another crib.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's possible that he paid cash for that mansion in 2005 and was awash in money. But his output as a producer and songwriter has been quickly drying up over the last decade, and like a lot of homeowners who get used to maintaining a certain lifestyle, he took out a mortgage on his home that he ultimately could not pay back. I'm sure he had his home listed for sale for at least probably the past year, but mansions tend to sell a lot slower than the usual house, and there probably weren't any buyers out there to bail him out.

This makes total sense.
