I´m having a huge "TOLD YOU SO ! " moment right now, and I am very happy that he is about to release a new album. I don´t care how long it took, 10 years, 12 years, 15 years, who cares? I don´t. I listen to his music so often, he cheers me up and makes me feel good, matter of fact I´ve been listening to his music all day today, and if he´s got a very unique and strange concept of time, or has had bad luck or whatever problems, then so be it, I respect that. I have never lost faith in him, he´s still one of my all time favorite musicians and probably THE most soulful musician these days. So happy. Can´t wait to see him in concert again. Glad that he´s still healthy, talented and alive. God bless him. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Just to play the 'annoying Funk Devil's advocate' for a moment..
Funk for Funk's sake, Is something that i and i assume many of us Prince supporters fully endorse-
But-
Is there a strong enough Chorus/Hook to this song for the average radio listener?
D'angelo never really cared that much about hits. Nothing comercial about Voodoo, except his naked upper body and Untitled (how does it feel). My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

Between this album, AOA, the Basement Tapes set, and crazy good Springsteen remasters, the last few months have been fucking stellar. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Wait--didn't you already lol at this?

That's a lot of telling.

True.. But, Brown Sugar had several catchy radio friendly tunes/Hits.. Voodoo Less so...
I guess i was asking if the General public is 'ready' for this like Muso's are.

ah. wtf. i still lol. i mean vocal clarity - c'mon. 15 years after voodoo sb should realise that this kind of "unclear" vox are his trademark. You want a clear understandable hook? Go listen to lenny kravitz...
Prince can do this in 20min? I really don't know, man. Listen to the details in the track... it's pretty complex even it sounds easy. Prince lost the love for sound and details a lil bit in his latest compositions. I'm glad blast from the past came out with genious tracks like adonis and bathsheba.
When I compare Gold Standard to Sugah Daddy... I'm mean I can feel and hear much difference in chosen sounds and quality of production. Golden Standard sound a lil bit like done in 20min (ok, only Prince is able to do that... haha)... compare it. chose for yourself... i played AOA maybe 3 or 4 times.. and i'm through.... I played Sugah Daddy 10 times today and still can't get enough... don't know.
D' delivers, man. And it's a tribute to one of the most amazing soul funk musicians of all time - Prince. Nobody denies. But i hear sly too and other influences. I mean check the horns. so freaky and experimental ... not that 20 hornplayers in your face stuff...
But, hey, why am I writing this... fuck it. THIS RECORD IS A CHANGER. the rnb soul scene better watch out. I'm sure the rest of the record will be mind blowin...

Motha furtha, hype from who? The actual artist? Probably not. More like the "I wish x was relevant and selling millions so I can be validated in my like of the artist. Ya'll are seriously killing me. like find a new hobby seriously, cuz this one ain't hittin' for ya. In other words, yes, the single is FONKAY. Going back to listen again right now.

Eh. Different strokes. I listened to U Know (along with Whitecamps) on repeat when it came out. But comments like this just confirm to me that ya'll didn't get the punchline of Art Official Age. And as for it being a "changer," just listen to it and don't have any other expectations but what it does for you personally. This is how the "hype" of an album 14 years in the making is propagated. Music consumers talk about the "hype." Music lovers just listen to the music and appreciate it.

right. ok. so whats the punchline?

I mean U can tell he studied them 4 years & perfected them perfectly. 'D'angelo comes the closest to 's vocal layering, than any artist besides Bilal, than I ever heard. has influenced him so well.. The best Prince protege that he never discovered. But I'm sure wished he had. He has acknowledged on CNN a few years back He'd like to see what D'angelo is gonna come out with next.

Just listened and I'm already leaning out of my window, calling "Merry Christmas!" to random street urchins in the snow. When the album drops in a couple of days, I suspect I'll be tossing them a bag of coins to run and buy the fattest goose in the shop. I agree. People always complain about how long it has taken him to release new music but D has had issues. I am happy his healthy and getting his life together. People should be rooting for this uniquely talented man instead of kicking him down, meh. Based on the music climate nowadays people should be rooting for him!

YES. Excellent post. Let's support this artist. He's back on his feet, and his fans will welcome him back with open arms. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

To be honest, the new single is a great funk jam. And this funk jam is so damn good, that I would easily buy the album if it was just one epic funk jam. That's how good I think his jams are. I don't care what people say, and I'm not saying this just because I waited 14 years. If he made some wack shit, I would be one of the first to say so. This stuff is HOT. And it's just a little piece of the album. His strength is albums, not standalone tracks. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

I think this one's a great teaser track. It swaggers in, completely self-assured, with the sense of pure, stripped-down feel he's always able to summon. But, at the same time, it's sparse and actually kind of subdued, like he doesn't feel obliged to reveal all his cards just yet. I think the album's actually going to be pretty special. What is "AOA"? Do you mean Prince acknowledged on CNN that D is the best protege he never discovered or vice versa? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

And the timing couldn't be better. Right now, I'm counting down the minutes.

The second half of the album.....................WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!! Back To The Future, Prayer, Betray My Heart,............... . My only complaint, I wish Both 1000 Deaths(the demo version was 7 minutes) and Charade (3:21), were longer.

Shit, I'm willing to stay up just to find out how true this is. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Okay, my last comment............I cannot wait for folks to hear "Prayer" and "Betray My Heart". Lawd have mercy !!!!

So it will be released at midnight? Does anyone know what timezone they're talking about here, there are a lot of midnights in the world! (I just thought about making some lame pun based off the track from Planet Earth, but can't really be bothered, a new D cd is almost upon us!) Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...
