Kanye's impact on the music industry should not be underestimated. He's the biggest male superstar artist of his generation.

College Dropout is the strongest debut album in Hip-Hop since Illmatic (or at least had the biggest impact) and MBDTF is probably the greatest album of the past 5-10 years across all genres. Yeezus i can take or leave but the 2nd 3rd abums are also very solid and 808's + Heartbreaks was a huge departure for him musicially when it came out. Not to mention his countless production credits and hits as a featured artist.

"Talent" wise he's obviously in a whole different ball park to the D'Angelo's of this world but you cant deny the music he has made will have a lasting impact.

Yes I do. Obviously taste is subjective but I think a lot of people tend to dismiss Kanye due to his personal life as well as his rants at live shows and dumb statements in interviews. Musically he's on a different level to any hip hop artist there is in terms of Production and the boundarys he's pushed. Also one of the most consistent artists with 5+ albums across any genre of the past 25 years. As i said in my original post The College Dropout is a certified Hip-Hop classic and MBDTF is almost universally regarded as one of the best albums of the last 10 years.. so in terms of having a "lasting impact" I think he qualifies.

There's not a Kanye West song I will ever remember, but I saw the dude on the Jimmy Kimmel show one night. He spoke for about 10 straight minutes on what it takes to be successful and every single thing the man said was 100% right on the money.

I don't care for his music or his career, but I respect his intelligence and work ethic.

Interesting. I can't think of a single song that he has made. I own all of his material and none of it actually sticks 2 my music memory. I would recognize it if i heard it, but I can't recall any of it.

I cant comprehend the idea of owning 6 albums worth of music by an artist and not being able to recall a single song...But everyones different. heres a starting point for you!

I can only think of a couple of songs by Kanye that I kinda like. That song with Jamie Fox about a gold digger and that Use to Love You song he produced for John Legend.

I love Aaliyah, but she is not a legend.

Red Hots are in the Rock Hall, I think that automatically makes them legends.

Personally, I think he became a 'legend' after apparently having serious drug and legal issues for years (serious drug problems and disappearing from public sight for a number of years always seem to help in the 'legend' stakes for some reason) and lo, come the tenth anniversary of the release of Voodoo with no follow-up in sight, the Org did declaim Michael Eugene Archer a LEGEND. cool wink

It was then that the John the Baptist for D'angelo's 'second coming', one Questlove Thompson, did turn around and did spake, 'The new album is 99.99999999999999999 % done and will definitely be released sometime this century'.

IMO - Two good albums in 19 years maketh a legend not ... eek

Y'all have NO sense, evillol

And the angelic Leeds, he who doth manage tours, spoketh unto the faithful saying "fear not, for I bring you good tidings of great new music which shall be unto all people who speaketh his name, Michael Eugene Archer, thus sayeth the Org.

But you would call D a legend??? lol lol lol

Kanye has been producing since the late 90's Including the classic Blueprint album. He's made College Dropout, Late registration & MBDTF. 3 of the most highly rated albums of the last 2 decades. And even ones like Graduation & 808's have inspired dozens of other artists. And MBDTF is the most highly rated album of the 10's so far.

3 great albums, and 3 good ones. Although some think Yeezus & Graduation are great lol

I would say Kanye deserves his status. Way more then D'angelo ever will. He has actually put in constant great work. For himself and for other artists.

And Red Hots have been around way longer before D. And were way bigger after D left. You think his 2 albums are more legendary than the entire RHCP discography? come on now scriptgirl lol they are one of the bands that changed the rock world. D certainly didn't change r&b.

To who though? Neo-Soul was popular like 5-6 years. Chili Peppers made funk metal mainstream. They popularized an entrie genre. Flea inspired thouands, probbaly millions, of kids to play bass. Same with Fruciante on guitar. They've been around since 1984. Had hits in the 80's, 90's and 00's. And had an influence in those decades. How you see D as legends but not chili peppers. Or yeezy is just crazy lol

90% of people outside of the org. Either don't know who D'angelo is. or only know him for untitled. People of my generation mostly don't know him. But old, new, and in between. are aware of Kanye & RHCP.

I honestly do like D alot... i do. He's a very very talented guy. I just don't understand the huge fandome on the org. I Don't get it for Lauryn either honestly.

There's been lots of great r&b albums since then. Although Channel Orange is one of my favorites. I wish Frank would come out with a 2nd one already.
