My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Is 4 Years Old.

The album that changed everything smile hard to believe it's been 4 years! This is the album that solidified everything that Kanye has ever said about himself and showcased just how serious and passionate he is.

The album was named the album of 2010 by rolling stone. Got a 10/10 on pitchfork (hard to please those hipsters) and is rated the #1 album of the 10's on Rateyourmusic.com. And #193 of all time. As well as inspiring dozens of hip-hop, indy rock, and pop albums after it. This album is already a classic and still sounds fresh.

Lets have a toast to the princebags!

Pfff... This is by far the most overrated album of the last 50 years... It's not even average...
Not to mention the whole bullshit around the Aphex Twin sample of "Avril 14th" he horribly butchered into on of his crap "songs" and then embarrasingly claimed to be his own composition...

This album is just really bad pop-rap for the new millenium or Puff Daddy "music" for the new millenium... A disgrace to call this garbage "Hip-Hop"... It's just doo doo...

This album was to get back into the public's good graces after the self-indulgent (but I think brilliant) 808s & Heartbreaks (2008), and Taylor Swift speech interruption (2009).

Agreed. This is the album that made me take Kanye as an artist AND lyricist seriously (I know I was late but hey).

Nevertheless, I was floored by this album when it 1st came out and it's aging quite nicely- still an amazing body of work to listen to from start to finish.

There've been some great hip hop albums since this one (Nas' Life Is Good, Common's Nobody's Smiling) but this was the last "hip hop classic" for now.

Kanye West wasn't the only producer on this album, and included greats Q-Tip, Pete Rock, and No I.D. during its making. Here is something from behind the scenes:

Chris Rock says My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the best hip hop album, better than It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (Public Enemy).

And then he compares it to Thriller and Purple Rain!

People love to yell out overrated when it comes to Kanye. The only one actually overrating Kanye is Kanye. But even though I think Kanye seems like a super massive douchebag, I actually find myself agreeing with himself more than I agree with his haters. He has not released a single bad album, not a single average album, and his albums are either good, really good or classics. You can hate him as much as you want, but he has left som crazy huge footprints on the whole industry ever since he started solo albums. If you got any sort of historical perspective when it comes to music, you'll know that he is one of the most influental individuals of the last 10 years atleast. And we're talking music, fashion, culture as a whole. You simply can't ignore it. You can decide to not like hime, but you can't take way his legacy. He is FAR from average. I seriously can't understand how anyone would be honest and say he is average or bad.

I just listened to the album again before work in full.

Yup still a classic. The muddled mixing is what kinda puts it off. There is clipping in some areas. He fixed this on Yeezus thank goodness. Not sure if that had to do with less samples being used or a new mixer.

The only thing that made it a little less favorable was the heavy use of guests that got annoying in the middle. Monster and So Appalled were too close to eachother and drowned the theme; out of 'retaliation to love'. It picked back up on Devil in a New Dress - Blame Game however.

It is beautiful at times especially the first half and very anthemic. I bet hearing these songs live were great. Having the chance to see him on his first tour defenitley solidified him for a long time imo.

Kanye was trying to make this like a movie. The guest spots are like the ''greek chorus'' of the thoughts in kanyes head. Especially on songs like Monster & So Appalled. And the lyrics on the album are absolutely great. Anyone who's saying that they suck. Obviously never really listened to Gorgeous lol or So Appalled. Some of the best bars in recent memory for hip-hop. The whole album is very cinematic in scope. Dark Fantasy is the intro for the long movie. And lost in the world is the epic conclusion.
