D'angelo announces The Second Coming-his new European Tour

http://www.okayplayer.com/news/dangelo-second-coming-european-tour.html

Hear ye, hear ye. The mighty D’Angelo has announced that he’ll be taking his funk revue to the stage once more this winter on The Second Coming tour. Many D’lievers have likely found themselves in a perpetual state of Voodoo withdrawal, but your prayers seemed to have been answered good folks, as r&b’s savior will be hitting the road this winter with a heavy line-up in The Vanguard, including phenom drummer John Blackwell, bass gawd Pino Palladino, six-string maven Jesse Johnson and a slew of other well oiled funk-machines. While there’s still no word on when we’ll get the mythical, nearly 15-years-in-the-making Voodoo follow-up, you can at least rest assured that you’ll be able to see the equally electric and organic stage-show that is D’s calling card sooner than you would have once imagined. The tour jumps off in Zurich on February 11th and will run through the beginning of March, finishing the European sprint in Brussels on March 7th. Peep the dates below and grab a stub (or if you’re in the US, a plane ticket) stat. Keep it locked, as the spring-time is looking ripe for a stateside showing and even if that doesn’t turn out, we’ll always have that spooky night at Afro-Punk.

I don't know what to make of this guy?? We were just listening to Voodoo last weekend. It's such an awesome album. What is with D? Is he afraid to release new music? Has he lost his creativity? What's up?

I thought he sounded great and performed very well when he was on the BET awards (or was it Soul Train?), I don't understand why he's let things go on as long as he has with nothing really to show for the past 15 years.

I just hope somebody is looking after him properly this time and he doesn't end up back in the hospital. Isn't that the reason he cancelled the US leg of his tour last year?

I'm not sure what's going on but it seems like he needs a lot of support that he's not getting.

Why is D's band a cliche?

Graycap, why do you think D needs a lot of support?

Re the US tour being cancelled. I think a huge part of it is that D is leery of US audiences. In europe, they love soul music and don't focus as much on appearance. Also D is LOVED in Europe.

He was in the hospital in serious condition....that's not cause for concern?

Y'all sound like you don't care if the guy lives or dies as long as he puts on a good show in Europe where he's loved.

best believe if p went on the road with the JB's and he wasn't the tour manager, there would be a post/tweet about it.

I agree but since they never said what the issue was.......they left it up 2 people's imagination.

U know how that tends 2 turn out.

I sure do. nod

When somebody is all over the place like he is, it's difficult to keep them grounded so the talent they possess can be fully realized. The people around the artist have to deal with that or it can end badly.

idea, or element of an artistic work which has become overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, even to the ...

Lets see The Second Coming..p movie and song used during controversy tour, D is the biggest P stan around,, having Jesse on guitar and JB on drums trying mightily to capture P's sound...Yeah very much a cliche..

Alan really need to STFU..I really wish P would come out and shade the fuck out of all of em..To classy to do in open but you know behind closed doors...

D has three big problems.

Number one-old boy is an ARTIST. Not the way Prince is an Artist-D is 20x times more sensitive than P is-I love P, but I wouldn't call him sensitive. Many, many, many people have said D is not cut out for fame. He doesn't have the skil set. Too shy, too sensitive.

Number two- D is stubborn. He cannot and will not be told what to do. It doesn't help that he came into prominence very early and was pretty much able to do what he wanted-got a sweet publishing deal, acolades and he took no shit from his record company or ignored them. D operates on his on time.

Number three- Boy is an addict. That really doesn't help.

as i know cliche has several meanings and i think mr leeds used that word the right way. at least D'Angelo is clever enough to surround himself with some bad ass musicians. it clearly shows that D'Angelo looks out for musicians that are capable to realize his vision or his idea. at least: THIS is a band. i would go see THAT band anytime without D too! 3rdeye...? maybe for a 5er...
