Singer Reflects On Storied 20 Year Career, Embarrassing Moments, & Looks Ahead

Usher thatgrapejuice tour Usher on Touring & Career Status: I Dont Have To Prove Anything

Despite his 8th studio album ‘UR’ getting off to a rocky start with its moderately performing singles, veteran R&B singer Usher maintains – and recently reaffirmed – that he has “nothing to prove.”

Gearing up to kick off his “UR Experience” tour in promotion of the project, the Grammy winner recently sat down with CBS Radio to dish on the new trek, reflect over his 20 year career and more.

“No doubt about it, I don’t have to prove anything. I mean I’ve been doin it for 20 years, this will be my 8th album, and I’m just naturally a hard worker, anything that I do I go after it to be the best.”

Before Montreal fans get a peek at Ush and soon-to-be R&B roadmate August Alsina in action this Saturday, tuck in below to hear Ush dish on the tour:

Well then I guess that means he's retiring. Because for as long as someone works, they'll always have something to prove. Doesn't matter how much they've accomplished already. When you feel like you've got nothing left to prove, that means you're basically done.

usher has been sounding a little defensive lately while still being cocky.i dont think an artist should say they have nothing to prove, if fans wanna say that fine but he shouldnt say it himself. i think he got caught up in trying to outsell that hugely successful but very overrated confessions album.

With several recent flop singles and a tour that's not selling well, his career is at a crossroads.Instead of trying to turn things around,he seems oddly complacent and defensive confuse

BULL FUCKING SHIT lol lol In the interiew he claims the albums being pushed back because... ''he has more to say'' what? both of your singles were just about sex! shit all you sing about is sex or romance. And the singles failed! never heard em on radio once smile

Usher had all that potential with Climax! and ruined it tbh.

Confessions was a good R&B album. It is his last great album imo. However, you are right. He shouldn't make pretentious remarks like this but then again, most of these current acts are very full of themselves. If he thinks he has nothing to prove, why does he care what others think?

When artists become passé they first do tv shows.. then they take up residency in Las Vegas.. he has a long career ahead of him, just maybe not doing what he's used to doing.

.

I liked Climax, but the last two things from him didn't really do anything for me.

Change it one more time..

You crazy! that was his smoothest song in years. He was supposed to release a new album. But the singles failed! i mean... failed. Didn't even go top 40. Now he says ''it's beign pushed back cause i have more to say'' :roll"

He even had a song with Nicki Minaj on it! and it still bombed lol

My Way, 8701 & Confessions were good. i can't believe he's been on auto pilot for so long. Grant it even Confessions had horrible song (Yeah! bleh) but it was consistant. How he went from that to O.M.G, Daddy, DJ's Got Us Fallin In Love, Good Kisser etc. Oh... and lets not forget the garage band sampled love In This Club lol

I agree. He had a respectable R&B disography before he went all Euro pop. He hurt his fans when he did that. Its sad that acts like JT, Robin and so forth get labeled the king of r&b when an act like Usher has been making it since he came into the industry but chooses not to anymore. I kinda lost respect for him after that and Climax was one of his better songs in recent years."Take Your Hand" from Confessions has a doo woppy feel to it. I liked to see him do a old school r&b type of album but once again he once to chase the pop charts lol

He seems to have some pull with the kids about 20 because they have fond memories of 2004's Confessions and pretend to have liked his earlier stuff.

They're all my age, early 30s, because 1997's My Way made him a star, and we were teenagers then.

No, he's crazy!! Remember he was gassing that shit up! Saying he was inventing a "new" genre with it. Biotch, please. He should have named it "Sleepmax" instead of Climax.
