Songs that shouldn't be touched

Okay, I'm of the mind that a few songs in this world are perfect as is and not to be tampered with by lesser mortals...it's irksome. lol

Name some songs where the original artist just did the damn thing...kind of like in sports when they retire your jersey.

Forgive me for borrowing from your thread Chriss....

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

marvin gaye's whats going on. lets get it on, sexual healing. Luther Vandross's A House is not a Home,Creepin, If Only for one Night(yep I know he remade these but his version is what most are aware of ) Prince's Adore and Insatiable. Switch's There'll Never Be(tho i think Maxwell would probably do a great job surpassing the original)

Good ones.

When I think of Prince songs I think of how many people have tried to sing Purple Rain... shake

Luther is very tough act to follow too.

.

Speaking of Marvin, I've rarely seen anyone sing a good cover version of the Whitfield/Strong-penned 'Grapevine', even though Smokie+Miracles and Gladys Knight recorded versions of it before (and Gladys even had chart success with it).

Everytime I see singers try to cover 'Grapevine' at talent shows, or cover bands try to perform it at local parties, they do the song with this huge ear-to-ear smile while trying to belt out the notes as forced as possible. God, it's a song about cheating and heartbreak, you're gonna wanna sing it with the emotional delivery that Marvin gave to it in his rendition.

.

I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme
