Yes, I was confused by that too. It's not a cover. If I remember correctly, Ashlee actually did do a cover of Burning Up at one of her concerts once but this isn't it.

Ashlee gets a lot of crap but I actually enjoyed her albums a lot, but obviously she isn't on the same level as Madonna. But I do wish Ashlee could have the opportunity to make another album.

She had a crackerjack team behind her. She had some good songs. But her Ashlee Simpson Show (a fascinating study IMO) kinda proved that she was inauthentic and didn't have a clue. The show was hella cute and slick as linoleum, but I feel MTV exploited every inch of naivete this girl showcased routinely. They really ramped up the exploitation into its second season. You could do compilation of satirical moments on the producers part that is almost shameful. Definitely pre-American Idol of the zeitgeist.
