Well, would you want to function without one?? Sorry, but I would never ever want to give up computers and the internet.

And all your complaints regarding Bill Gates... ridiculous. If he wouldn't have done what he's done, someone else would have. And boohoo, for him not giving away his OS for free. And even though Windows by no means is perfect, at least there is a quasi standard on which most computers function. Imagine a world with hundreds of different computer standards, where none is compatible with the other. That would be hell.

This album is decent, but it's striking how generic it sounds. It sounds like any random pop band with very good songs, rather than sounding like one of the more distinctive rock bands of all time

Final Artwork For Songs of Innocence
September 2014


If you thought the artwork for U2's latest album, Songs of Innocence, looked a little blah when it popped up in your iTunes, turns out that was just a placeholder. The band today revealed the actual album cover, which will be featured when the physical CD and vinyl copies shipping on October 13.

The completed artwork is a stark yet warm black-and-white image of U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr., shirtless and kneeling as he embraces the waist of his also-shirtless 18-year-old son, Aaron.

A post on U2's official website explains that the theme calls back to the band's 1980 debut album, Boy, and 1983's War. Both of those albums' covers featured the younger brother of one of Bono's childhood friends, shirtless and striking the same pose, but with a clear loss of innocence displayed in the latter photo.

Says Bono, "If you know [Songs of Innocence], you'll see the themes in the visual language, how 'holding on to your own innocence is a lot harder than holding on to someone else's.'"

I was going to post a pic of the new cover and saw you've done it - thanks! I also like that you included an explanation about the "why" of it. At first I was really thinking this was some homoerotic (not in a bad way either) homeage to something. Now I see/read it is even better and meaningful.

U2's Songs of Innocence Has Been Downloaded 26 Million Times
October 10th


Since U2 first released their album Songs of Innocence into the account of every iTunes user for free on September 9, it has been downloaded in full 26 million times.

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior VP of Internet software and services, tells Billboard that, in total, more than 81 million of Apple's 500 million global customers "experienced" songs from the album


"To help put this into perspective, prior to this, 14 million customers had purchased music from U2 since the opening of the iTunes Store in 2003," Cue tells Billboard.

The physical version of Songs of Innocence, containing 10 bonus tracks not available on the iTunes version, will be released this Tuesday, October 14.

I get some of the backlash, having it showing up in your 'purchased' items, having to delete an album you may not want, but I LOVE this album!! Lots of folks calling it boring but I just love it. And it is a true 'album,' not just a collection of newish songs. The theme of newness and firsts carries throughout. CANNOT stop listening to "Raised By Wolves" and "Troubles." The only track I consider skipping (but never do) is "Song For Someone." I hope they sing some of these songs when they tour, unlike 360 where they played 2 songs from No Line. I think "Volcano" and "This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now" would sound fantastic live!

You are right. I should have clarified. In the city in which I saw them they only played two songs from No Line.

Strange. They played all 7 at the show I saw in 2009. They played 4 at the show I saw in 2010 and 3 on the bootlegs I have from 2011. I don't think they ever played less than 3. So either way, try to catch them the first year of the tour and you'll get to see plenty of new songs.

This album is great plain and simple. I don't get people saying anything other than that to be honest. I can understand them saying that about the last one and even "How to Dismantle" though i liked both very much at times, this album is solid straight through for me and the Bonus Disc is outstanding and worth the price just for that alone. The Acoustic Sessions of tracks from this album are amazing, the Piano Version of "Every Breaking Wave" with just raw live vocals no mixing at all, from Bono, outstanding shit.

Awesome to hear, lastdecember! I will listen to the acoustic sessions tomorrow when I get the actual CD. Can't wait!!

PatrickS77 - thanks for the advice. I saw them late, late, late on the 360 Tour. It was after they took a hiatus, too, because of Bono's back injury. It was still an amazing concert, though. A night I'll never forget!
