Iggy Azalea is stupid

I'm not sure if she got roped into doing this song or if she actually felt "inspired" to write it herself (I doubt it), but she has a song called F*ck Love
It isn't some clever duality like a Prince-penned lyric, nor is it some explicit declaration of sexual style like a Jodeci lyric. It pretty much means what it says: "F*ck love, I'd rather have diamonds." Now, many songs glorify materialism on their own but very few songs straight out attack the idea and concept of love in favor of it.

Even Madonna's "Material Girl" didn't attack love; it just glorified her admiration for material possessions. In this song, Iggy references Madonna's hit by paraphrasing in saying "What if I'm a material girl; can't blame me, we live in a material world." She goes on in the beginning with the braggadocio of most rappers by saying she's "already in love with herself" and later on, goes further in on love by saying "Oh no, that love shit, I won't do it". Now, I don't know if she actually believes this stuff she (or whoever) is writing or if she is simply mimicking what she believes to be an actual perspective of a real person but I haven't heard this kind of reckless disregard outside of supervillains in comic books. I think its an awful message to be seeding in the minds of her fans. This song will eventually come back to bite her in the ass. So far, this is THE most reckless song written by a current pop star that I've heard in a while. I mean, most pop music is filled with empty materialism that encourages self-indulgent, damaging behavior but this one takes the cake.
This seems to be a trend of the current generation. August Alsina, a newer R&B singer, recently put out a song called "No Love" that also displays a degree of heartlessness that is not to be ignored. Drake's "No New Friends", while lighter, also rose to uncomfortable heights of popularity as well.

What is up with this current trend of hating love? There have always been songs about materialism and broken-hearted declarations of anger and rejection in music but lately it seems that the current generations' music is mostly negative and divisive. I don't think for one minute that it is coincidental. Nothing and no one that is funded by big companies gets promoted on accident. Division is how power is attained and kept. I think it is the work of bigger entities/organizations attempting to keep people divided by gender, race and whatever else they can to remain in power and I think a lot of those messages are spread through music. If you want to control a people, you must condition them to think how you want them to, and music is a great tool for that.

So, when Iggy says "So I don't want no boyfriend, just give me them checks", she is sending a message of division to her impressionable fans that it is better to be alone and aspire for individual wealth rather than to partner up with someone. Anyone who knows anything about business and life knows that this is untrue.
There is a campaign to keep division going by ego-stroking ("can't take my pride"), discouraging unity ("Fuck Love") and encouraging promiscuity and self-gratification ("It's my life, I'm a do who I want to") and it is introduced and put on repeat through songs like Iggy's and designed to redirect peoples' focus to make their life struggles more difficult. Why? So they can sell you shit. Open practically any popular magazine and after almost every article on self improvement and or "why he cheats" or something like that is an ad trying to sell you something to "improve yourself" with a picture of some young, genetically gifted person in it implying that you too can look like that if you just buy their stuff. They need you miserable to sell you shit.

I have been a little bitter about materialism for a while now but this nonsensical ode to hatred and shallow self-obsession deserved a rant. Young idiots like Iggy and August probably don't even realize that they are pawns in a game encouraging people to think on this level. Its not just them; its a movement on a grand scale and it happens from all angles and simultaneously. Reality shows encourage this type of behavior, movies and many tv shows do as well. This is what happens when you allow corporations to take over art.

"F*ck love, give me diamonds"? Seriously? Seems like the song should come with a message that says "sponsored by the DeBeers corporation" F*ck love? This inspiration for a functioning society, the inspiration for everything we create and all of the passion that inspires us to be better, not only as individuals but as a people on the whole? F*ck love? No. F*ck you, Iggy. F*ck you for being stupid.
/end rant

When I heard the title I immediately conjured up lyrics about a girl so continuously hurt by love that she is now resigned to just forget about it and just do her. Granted I first saw it advertised as one of the songs on the new "Love and Hip Hop" soundtrack, and for anyone who is familiar with that particular program, love deserves all the derision it can handle. One particular exchange during one of the seasons of the show was a scene with this producer who got secretly married while with his baby momma of 11 years. They were argueing, and during the heated exchange he pleaded,"But what about love?", to which the woman replied with to me was the perfect Tina Turner remix,"Who gives a f!ck about love?!?" Iggy apparently did her homework. Smart girl? Hardly. Opportunistic? Bingo!

Whack... the way she raps just sounds fake and forced to me.. that's not an aussy accent. Im not sure what she's trying to sound like. Don't like the song, Ive only heard the "Working for my shit" song and "fancy" and the "black widow" song. The first two were ok but the last two suck IMO.

Change it one more time..

He might be too damn happy getting white vagina to notice at the moment. We can only hope the young man will wake up and realize that Iggy might be using him. Remember, not all money is good money & not all vagina/penis is good vagina/penis neither.

eek Wow, did I say that?!? lol

@BlaqueKnight Agreed. I liked her better when she was black and went by Lil' Kim. lol

That said, young people with shitty taste in significant others tend to gravitate towards songs like that so I'm not surprised those types of tunes are popular.

Lil Kim is shit too lol idk why so many people give her a pass. 90% of her songs were about money or ''fuck y'all men suck my pussy ima use youf or sex'' That's all she could rap about. The occassional ''ballad'' she would get ghost written were usually shit too.

I just don't see why she's highly regarded. Am i missing something?

I kinda feel that way about rap in general at this point. When I look at Drake I understand the basic appeal (he cute). But when you listen to his records you have to ask yourself if he truly thinks he's that interesting to constantly boast about himself so religiously. I've shamefully given him mnoney in the past. I'm just happy that I've enjoyed it for what it was and have grown past that sad stage.

I never understood Drake's appeal. I think he is one of the worst rappers of all time. He gets a pass because he's a light-skinned Jew who had some TV credits to his name before hitting the big time. Then again, we could make the same argument for other rappers who seem to be overrated. I used to like 2Chainz but his schtick got old to me real quick. I am amazed that rappers over age 28 are even given a pass like they are nowadays. Jay-Z about to be AARP-Z pretty soon but how is he able to still be "relevant"? I think the standards are so low that just about anyone can be a famous rapper for any length of time because they have almost no competition and as long as they pay off the media, they can be relevant into infinity. The worst example of this is Lil Wayne. By the standards from back in the day, he should have fizzled out around 2009. Not sure how these dudes manage to extend their shelf life...

Ive only heard about two Drake songs randomly in other people car radio's and I was surprised at how bad he is... arrogant egotistical childish ranting. Growing up in NYC in the 80-90's I used to listen to a lot of hip-hop because it was all around me, but these days the market is flooded with crap. People who are actually kind of decent never (or rarely) become big names and those that do make it are largely crap.
