The Offspring

What are some opinions on the band? i didn't realize it till i was older. But there were one of (if not still) the most overplayed artists on rock radio.

Their stuff is catchy as hell no doubt. And sometimes the bass player comes up with a good riff. But i can't figure out if i like them...

All these years later lol sometimes their songs annoy the shit out of me. Sometimes i can get down to Come Out and Play, Gone Away, Self Esteem etc.

But then there's shit like Pretty fly For A White guy, Original Prankster, and Why Don't You Get A Job. Which are immature drivel lol

Event the good songs sometimes annoy me. It seems like they re-wrote their same songs many times. But some days i can dig them. Hmm...

What are opinions on the group? annoying? catchy? awesome? eww?

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

.

I like Americana. But mostly because the opener and closer are pretty strong ('Have You Ever' and 'Pay The Man' respectively).

.

I think Dexter Holland may not be the most brilliant vocalist out there, but strangely it doesn't annoy me in Offspring's music. They came out of that wave of 2nd generation ska-punk inspired bands that also included No Doubt and Green Day, and I'll always have a place in my heart for them.

They really do ride the line between "catchy" and "annoying" like few other bands.

I don't really think of them as a great band or a crappy one. There's a lot of better punk bands and also a lot of worse ones. They were kind of the right band for their time.

One thing I like about them, is that they covered the Didjits' "Killboy Powerhead" on SMASH!, and thus scored the song writer, Rick Sims, a life-changing payday. They also hired Atom Willard from Rocket From The Crypt to be their drummer, so that's two guys I like and respect a lot that have careers thanks to them.
