So Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has been negotiating with Lifetime about the biopic on her. The major hold up of the tees being crossed and eyes being dotted is over creative control over who plays Ms. Franklin. She wants to determine it.

It would seem to me the person (i.e. the executive producer - the persons spending the $$$) should make that decision, but anyway, who do you all think should play Aretha in her biopic?

I say Queen Latifah early on and Comedienne Luenell later on!!!!!!

Prince should play Aretha.

I'm willing to bet Beyonce has expressed interest in playing a young Aretha. And she's probably insisting on singing the songs herself.

She should throw her money and influence behind a pretty exceptional documentary about her life using real life photos, live videos, interviews from those she has collaborated with over the years as well as an interview from the queen herself and have it directed by Spike Lee. I think that would be a more powerful representation of her career and legendary influence rather than some silly biopic that will feature fabricated storylines to make the movie "flow" better.
