I see your point, I like Pharrell, he's a good producer and all that.. but he sounds just dated now, these tracks all sound like some leftovers from the Justified album by JT, or something he done back in the day when he used to be "NERD".. Ed Sheeran even got into it also and his single is made of the same formula.. Where's the uniqueness in that? Pharrell can do much better... It's just this whole disco/funk sound he's making is just dated, just like Timbaland.

He's been hanging around JT and Robin Thicke too much, and gave them so much soul in their music there was none left for his own! It's bad enough JT and Robin Thicke already sound alike vocally, but then you have the same guy doing the same music for both of them, which is better than his own. I wish Pharrell would do more with the sound he created on Kenna's album, because THAT WAS MY SHIT!
Brand New is still my favorite song from what I've heard off the album and Gust of Wind is one of the songs I've heard. This song however sounds like funk-lite, it has no weight to it and honestly, Miley's excerpt was the best part besides the guitar riff. This song is completely neutral.
I love me some funk and I'll be one of the first to advocate for the genre making a comeback but this is not the way to achieve it.

Then on the VMA's I believe, or some kind of interview, he told the interviewer that the beat-boxing was just something he came up with on the spot. Now, that is very ambiguous, because I didn't know if he meant it wasn't planned for the video and he improvised it, or that he came up with the idea of beat-boxing himself...

I was thoroughly bored by this album. I played it once and I haven't had any desire to play it again. I agree with Scarlet that his earlier stuff just sounded fresher. This album sounded like a rehash of tracks he's done a 1000x for everyone under the sun in the music business. Not knocking anyone that likes it.. I guess its just not for me.

I can see how you'd be tired of it, especially if you're familiar with his earlier work. I guess part of the problem with producing is that you make everyone else famous with your sound and by the time you try to launch your own music career (in the forefront) people have already heard it for a decade or so.
I guess the reason I like it is that it's not too hardcore and is a bit quirky. I was surprised at the duets with Miley Cyrus though. That seemed to be a deliberate attempt to be "mainstream". But, I think Pharrell is cool and look forward to his next few projects.

LOL that's a funny picture I guess that's the curse of just about every artist except Prince. Everyone wants their artist to stay the same while most of us Prince fans expect him to change. He saves the best, weird stuff for us. I said it before and will say it again, Prince fell into stardom already a superstar, he wasn't "made" a superstar. Big difference.
But, back on topic, I think Pharrell might be feeling pressure from execs to keep a similar sound. Who knows? I do'nt really know how the pecking order works in the industry. I think Pharrells success with some of his mainstream stuff may have been a curse at the same time.
