Was Nile Rogers on the entire album? Seems like his sound is all over this Pharell album. I also like having Daft Punk on here as well. That's why I like Pharrell so much. No two songs of his sound alike! thumbs up!

It's funky, but it's not some heavy material that would last and be relevant after 5 years.. The entire album is just funk driven and that's fine, but an artist should always expand, and search for new genres to master...

Best albums of all time are always the ones that blend many themes and aspects... musically, lyrically and melodically.

Wait a minute, weren't you just on a different thread giving all these "props" to Iggy Azalea? Please... lol lol lol

Lol c'mon Iggy is no serious artist I just saw them comparing her to Nicki Minaj who is a very bad rapper also, so the whole thing is about bad music anyway.... So I decided who got the less bad music.. Thats it. razz

I dunno, I see a pattern with some of the comments you write about certain artists and your comments about Iggy and then Pharrell's album is consistent with what you've written in the past. By the way, Pharrell has been in the game nearly 20 years at this point. So, Iggy has about 19 years and 7 months to catch up to him, LOL! (This is NOT including Iggy's "youtube years")

I see your point, I like Pharrell, he's a good producer and all that.. but he sounds just dated now, these tracks all sound like some leftovers from the Justified album by JT, or something he done back in the day when he used to be "NERD".. Ed Sheeran even got into it also and his single is made of the same formula.. Where's the uniqueness in that? Pharrell can do much better... It's just this whole disco/funk sound he's making is just dated, just like Timbaland.

Danger Mouse, Paul Epworth, Mark Ronson or Dan Auberbach are good example of producers who are never satisfied with one "thing" thats relevant and always try to work with different artists from different musical categories (Alternative, pop, R&B and soul..), and not only they produce some good stuff in each genre, its the whole proccess that gives them so much experience and subtance.

Iggy is a joke. Let her have her good days now, and the whole image of this foreign hot blonde is just gonna fade away once another female rapper pops up, this is the consequence of bad music and attitude.... No one is now remembering or giving two fucks about Nicki Minaj,,, who the hell needs her back aside from Lil Wayne and all those Young Money Cash Money rappers...

[Edited 7/4/14 12:00pm]

I think the biggest problem with the YMCM folks is that their entire look, sound, etc. is dated but they are pushed by the invisible forces that we don't see in the industry. I think a few weeks ago I was posting on here about how I was shocked that Lil Wayne is still relevant because his debut album dropped like 10 years ago. In "rap years" that might as well be 200 years smile Back in the day, a rapper with a 10-year career was unheard of.

I really think this is the problem with hip-hop and THIS is why I like Pharrell so much. For the most part, nothing that he produces or actually raps in sounds like what he's done in years past.

Why are you giving Justin T accolades and then saying Timbaland's sound is dated? If it's so dated, why is TimberFAKE still using Timbaland? That makes no sense to me.

I never said Nicki Minaj was great but I call BS when I see it. The industry is destroying R&B and hip-hop and then saying all these fakers are saving the genre of music. That is absurd!

Just my two cents biggrin

Never gave JT accolades, its just that Pharrell produced most of his Justified album, and most of the songs on GIRL just, to me, sound like leftovers from the sessions.

I agree with what you said.

I never claimed to know much about the industry but who decides on who produces an album? Is it the artist's manager or the manager of the would-be producer? I think JT handlers do most, if not all decision making and he just stands there. He never struck me as being that "involved" or creative though.

Agree with the bolded part. His early 2000's shit is light years ahead of this. But, he's sold out now, so I don't expect that much experimentation from him anymore. That album is so boring.

Well, is there anyone else that has Pharrell's sound though? I guess that's why I am confused. There's no one else out there with that sound, so it seems that Pharrell's magic hasn't gone anywhere. He's still way ahead of his contemporaries.

Okay so list some albums or singles that his contemporaries have done that sound just like Pharrell's work. It should be from someone who hasn't been produced by NERD of Pharrell in the past, in case you were itching to say Justin Timberlake. lol lol lol

Lol this is the problem with us, we give funk music a pass while we bash every other genre such as soft pop, or piano-driven ballads... Even funk has its bad moments when it's overmixed and watered down.

Why is that, when someone becomes really successful, people say that they "sold out"? confuse Pharrell didn't sellout. He's still making great music, like he always did.The difference is that, his audience is expanding.More and more people are liking what they hear from him. That's not "selling out".

Because he sold out his individual artistic integrity to appeal to the masses.

Case in point. When this:

Became this:

They sold out. Pharrell is "safe" now. I don't do "safe" music, but that's just me. Not trying to step on toes or anything.
