I don't know what it was about but Solange was not playing about hers. She was seriously trying to tag Jay Z. WTF was up with Beyonce just standing there though? You don't just stand there while your sister is swinging on your husband, whatever it's about. Mad props to Jay Z though because he never tried to hit her back, he just kept trying to keep her from hitting him, from what I could see.

Jay Z was ferociously assaulted by Beyonce's sister Solange ... who was wildly kicking and swinging at him inside an elevator ... and the attack was captured on surveillance video ... obtained by TMZ.

According to our sources, it all went down at a Met Gala after party last week at the Standard Hotel in NYC. In the video ... Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange step into the elevator ... and then Solange goes crazy, screaming at Jay before unleashing a violent attack.

A large man -- who appears to be a bodyguard -- attempts to hold Solange back, but she manages to connect at least 3 times. At one point Solange throws a kick and Jay grabs her foot, but never attempts to strike her. Beyonce stands by without getting physically involved.

It's unclear what triggered the fight.

And this is interesting. When you look closely, you see the bodyguard hit the emergency stop switch on the 12th floor -- mid fight -- presumably to keep the fight private.

All three walked out of the building together -- Solange looks pissed -- but while Bey and Solange get in one car ... security walks Jay to a different one.

There's another video on TMZ that shows Jay Z not wanting to get in the car with Solange right after it happened and everybody looks upset except Beyonce.

No, a man is not supposed to hit a woman and a woman is not supposed to hit a man either but when you decide to put your hands on someone else, you give them permission to hit your ass back. I give Jay Z mad props because would have been in the right in my eyes, had he knocked her upside her head but he clearly chose not to.

Lol, I guess now rappers have plenty to say about Jay Z, they gonna diss him for real this time.

And THAT^ is a double edge sword for Jay-Z. On one side, the old Jay-Z from the Reasonable Doubts-era would have defended himself and try to strong armed a woman. But on the other side, Jay-Z doesn't want or need to be an enigma like Ike Turner and Chris Brown.

between this link and the comments on this thread, i am getting absolutely no work done, over here laughing my ass off! one of the things i used to like about bey and jay is that i didn't know a lot about them. until recently, with all the pix on instagram and such, they were pretty low key about their relationship. i doubt they will comment on this, but please, let's not stop the rest of us for doing so!
