Paloma Faith - Can't rely on you

I love this new Pharrell produced single by Paloma Faith, it sounds like an old Lynn Collins kinda track to me! What do you think about this song?

F#ck, wrong forum! Does anyone know how to make the video actually appear in the thread instead of just showing the link?

I like it. I her as an artist. She has style. This is another Marvin Gaye inspired track for Pharrell.

Change it one more time..

The killer track from her new album has yet to be released as a single. Here she is singing a live breakdown. Killer song.

Paloma was at 3rd Eye Girls gig in Camden, London a few weeks back. She looked like she loved it.

I prefer the live in the Kitchen version of Can't Rely On You. This version is on the duluxe version of the album.

I don't get the video.

How was the car driving by itself?

Where did the horse come from?

What was with the milk bath & the mask?

Why was the priest(?) screaming?

Why was she screaming?

Is that her natural hair color?

She didn't need Pharrell. She's had plenty of hits without him. She was clearly looking at the American market.

She's always been funky, but in a northern soul kinf of way.

yeah that's fine if it comes from her soul, but this just sounds forced to me.

Well seeing as how I already have a Janelle wrecka... I'm glad I can have this as well instead of either in lieu of each other.

Cuz girly in the kitchen was hot....that was a live(as in good) performance...was it Janelle ?.....no...she got a different name and a different skin/person/skeleton and a different story...tbh...what does one have to do with the other at all?

Sounds like an old 60's Stax records vox track recorded yesterday... Like they dug an old mic and board out the crate.

This song feels a bit forced, almost like, this is what's selling at the moment, so let's get Pharell and make a hit. It sounds nothing like she's done before but Like everything he's done. I like it but would've been better by someone who normally does this sort of thing.

this James Brown lick been sampled million times in the 80s and 90s in rnb and hiphop tracks.

although the Pharrel sounds like it, its not exactly the same. but yeah he probably borrowed it or got inspired.

I agree.

I see it kind of like the Big King at burger king. Its obviously trying to be like the Big Mac without being the Big Mac. Similar but nothing actionable.

This lick is a touch busier than the jb lick.

Yeah, not a direct sample, but that's obviously where it's from. It's too close.

Funny enuff...I was watching the latest installment of rapists and deviants in prime time on law and order.

The episodes opened with Palomas cover of an inxs tune, never tear us apart. Oddly appropriate for Bensen's(Mariska Hargitay) rapist is coming back for the third time....lol...

It scarily appropriate. I went downloaded it right away...both versions. They each have their up and downsides.

I like the song, and feel a bit heartened that 'the kids' are choosing this type of music and not just godawful Nicki Minaj tracks. I prefer the looser feel of the live versions I've heard - though I can't help think her vocal and mannerisms when performing the song are just this side of an amateur dramatic society's production of Sister Act, and I have to hold my breath each time she goes for that high note in the chorus. (Plus, there's always a nagging thought runs through my head that probably any of the backing singers could probably pull off a more convincing vocal with less effort, were it not for the fact that there's still a whiff of Sam Phillips's business strategy lingering around the music industry even today.)

That said, I haven't heard much else by her, so I'm interested to hear what else she's brought to the table, perhaps in terms of songwriting, etc. I've seen her interviewed and she seems a canny lass.

This isn't a single but my fave off the album.

The attitude, lyrics, vox, so fun and energetic.

The chorus is reminiscent of a crazy southern riverside baptism.
