This Time vs. Trust a Try

Which janet album track is more musically ambitious to you and why? What would have made a better single? The performances on tour were off the chain! I think This Time was very ahead of it's time and influential to other r&b/pop female acts along with great subject matter and emotions, Trust a Try was also great and relatable but already building on co-existing hip hop-rock sounds of that period

Janet bring that new album out already!!!!

i think the better comparison is This Time vs. What About as they are both primarily about domestic violence. Trust a Try which wins the comparison is more musically ambitious. That song is SO layered. Its like it covers three genres at once. Content wise is more about, well trust. I love the "lame" intro to the song. But yeah, Trust slays the other two IMO. Its more accessible as a possible single and the others are best as albumt tracks

I originally wanted to do What About as well cause of the domestic violence theme, but opted for Trust a Try since they both come from carefree Janet albums that focus on love and touch on different genres.

I agree about the layers, it's so underrated and I feel like a lot of songs that came out after it sounded like it. From Brandy Full Moon songs to Toxic to No Doubt etc. and the beat was like some current hip hop at the time, but building on it. The intro was like something out of a rock opera.

Easily This Time, one of Janet's all-time best!

Trust A Try is kind of annoying, that whole album is just dull for me...

That sums up how I feel about All For You, and why I RAVE about Damita Jo.

Agreed. "All For You" is soooo boring compared to "Damita Jo." smile

I guess hearing janet giggle over the countryside and islands isn't everyone's cup of tea lol I agree Damita Jo is more musically diverse than All For You, but All For You has more of a concept and common theme, and Damita Jo lacks that, but contains a mix of Janet's best, half-assed and worst ever.

I like Trust a Try chorus more, however This Time is more calm and collected.

Trust A Try in my opinion carry its lead into the chorus for too long

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Yes I agree the chorus to Trust a Try is very strong. I love the build up at the end too where the verses are sung softly over the chorus before the final guitar breakdown.
