Coldplay Stealing Rifts From Janet, Michael, and Whitney

The bands newest song Magic has a very similar beat and piano chord... to the way you make me feel. confused it sounds like a blatant rip off.

Their song Speed of sound had a piano rift similar to Didn't We Almost Have it All. and 2 songs from Viva La Vida sound like janet b-sides. Is the group inspired by them? why do they rip them off???? Whitney & MJ would be ashamed.... to see the songs they worked hard on making be ripped off.

Since Whitney didn't write songs and a lot of her hits were remakes, how can someone rip her off?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

stolen love...change your word 'rifts', to 'riffs'...it'll do you no harm.

.

You're going to have to explain further what you mean...no one seems to be getting it...perhaps you're talking about the 'lolloping' kick drum + snare sound...but even that's pushing it.

The only song in which the "borrowed" something was the Beatles, "Hey Jude". They "borrowed it's melody for, "The Scientist".

Identity

I fail to hear any similarities between the new Coldplay single and the examples you mentioned.

I wouldn't put it past them. I have heard my share of lifted ideas regurgitated by Coldplay.

One of their big hits, the chorus is totally the melody of "Computer Love" by Kraftwerk. I think they even gave them a writing credit. No, not the most original thinkers out there.

I won't listen to Coldplay voluntarily so, I really can't comment on the tune in the OP. Just pointing out they have a history of sketchy borrowing from other popular songs.

You know, they have this technology that tells you whether or not your song will be a hit, based on the chord progression, tempo and other measurable qualities. It bases it on how close your song matches up to songs that have been popular in the past. Say you've got a song that is measuring a 7 but you need it to be at least an 8.5 to get promoted. So you keep tweaking the chorus until it practically is the same as the chorus of Blurred Lines in order to get the score up. You might gte to the point where you can't get a good enough score without stealing the melody of a prior hit song.

COLDPLAY owes the early parts of their career first few albums to a-ha, and those of you, who only know "Take On Me" then you'll be saying "what?" well if you know a-ha's output from 2000-2009, you pretty much have COLDPLAY's sound, and actually you can date it further back into a-ha's work to "east of the sun west of the moon" and find the exact keyboard riff from "clocks" on a-ha's "Waiting for Her" a total "riff off" so to speak, complete copy of the chord prorgressions, Ironically the keyboard player from a-ha who had solo albums of instrumentals in 1998 and 2000 also vocal albums in 2005 and 2008, i have played those albums to people without telling them who it is and they say "Is this Coldplay" every freaking time.

Shouldn't this be in the Michael Jackson sticky? It briefly mentions his initials...
