Other memorable moments...

***Vanity 6 appearing on 'Soul Train' in late 1982.They performed the songs "Nasty Girl" and "He's So Dull".During the interview with Don Cornelius,Vanity actually DENIED that Prince had anything to do with their album."He was too busy working on his own album",she insisted. She also advised the fellas that,if they wanted to reach them, just dial "777-9311,that's our number"...???

my favorite was from 1973. it was an hour with james brown in the studio with live band. great show. i think it was after bootsy and all the legendary folks had left, but the band was tight and jb was in great form. it was before he had gone disco, and was putting out the major funk.

Yea, he was playing with the second set of the JBs. "Doin' it till death" has just been released. Bootsy was gone, Fred Thomas has replaced him. Jabo Starks came for Melvin Parker, St Clair Pinkney for Maceo. It was a tight band.

Ther tightest performance?

Mandrill, 1973. They played live and really, I mean really rocked the house with "Hang Loose" and "Git it all". Nefti Santiago has ust joined the band on drums and Lo Wilson didnt make it too the gig cuz he was too high, trippin in his hotel room. Bass player Fudge Kae didnt make it either, he was suffering from injuries after a car accident. But the gig was rockin anyhow.

besides the original SOUL train from CHICAGO
i remember a MICHIGAN based show called TEEN TOWN...i
have some video footage from this show-was it based in
DEtroit? i KNow it was a 60's show.

also from the 60's-there was a Syndicated dance show
called LLOYD THAXTON...i think it was from PITTSburg.
JAMES was always on there doin' his stuff:
(pappa got a brand new bag & i got you i recall as a kid)

i can't remember any NY show...oh wait there was a 60's
one ...the cozy cole show. anybody recall this one?

"i got ants in my pants and i need to dance..."

It was so cool to watch "Sir Graves" from 1-3(Detroiters know!) and then Soul Train from 3-4. Now those are Saturday afternoon memories!

Thanks David wink

In my area,'Soul Train' always came on in the morning. We would watch it around 10:00,then 'American Bandstand' would come on at 11:00 (but that's another thread...lol)

Hey,I was born in Detroit btw...lol...do you remember a dance TV show called 'The Scene'? I remember watching it alot in the summer of '81,when I was on vacation back there.I was watching it one day and they aired a new song called "Get It Up" by a new band called The Time.

smile

HECKS YEAH I remember The SCENE!!! I didn't know you were from the city, too biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

The evening was not complete or hadn't started until we watched "The Scene". If we were ever bad (brother, sister arguing, etc.) our punishment was no Scene for the day or week!! Talk about TORTURE!!

Many of my teenage memories are built around The Scene...it was like XTC, man nod I had to see it and see who was on there (Prince look-alikes!!! horny ) A lot of them went to my high school, too.

I miss it sooo much! Nat Morris! Whoop, Whoop!

Tina (~!~)

Oh, no ya'll DIDN'T bring up "THE SCENE"!! lol

I remember wanting so bad to go down to WGPR and try to get on the show.

I think Vanity 6 were on the show once when the 1999 tour hit Detroit.

Remember Nat Morris' CORNY closing for the show: "Sugar is sugar, salt is salt, if you didn't get off today, (and all the dancers would say) IT'S NOT OUR FAULT!"

Between THE SCENE, THE ELECTRIFYING MOJO and SOUL TRAIN--well, you've got the soundtrack to my jr. high and high school memories. . .nod
