I had the chance to do some recordings at Mutato Muzika in the 90s, and Bob 2 was always the engineer. I found him a great guy, very warm and friendly, committed to getting a good result. He was very comfortable working with complex machinery, and seemed like a tinkerer. It was no surprise to find out later that he was trained as an actual radiation tech.

He was the least "public" member of Devo, a lot of people only know him as the extra guitarist or keyboardist who didn't write, sing or do guitar solos. He's kind of the "quitet one" of Devo, and remained so even when I last ran into them a few years ago. But it was evident, being in the studio with all of them, that he had an important role. He was the guy that made things work, that could probably build a machine out of the spare parts on the floor. While the others were coming up with these oddball ideas about what to play and how to fit it in, he was the one that the technical knowledge to say what would work.

I will miss him.
