I really like the loose, spacious feel of the groove, and the horns are great. For me, the song's lacking a certain something, though - or, at least, it feels more like an interesting album track than a single, especially a lead single. Felt like with Jerk Ribs the track and the song were more equally weighted.

Still looking forward to the album, though.

She really goes other directions with every release, but it stays Kelis.

On first listen I like it a lot.

Wow, love it. She really just keep surprising. Weird, great textures and her voice sounds really raw.

Hmm. Love the track, but not crazy about that vid. Seems a bit confused - and, for me, doesn't really fit the song. I thought they might pick up on, say, the afrobeat vibe of the track or the personal lyrics about Harlem. The 'retro glamourpuss star' thing seems a bit mismatched - and fairly conventional for what's a pretty unusual-sounding track.

(I am kind of a grouch, of course, so it could just be that.) lol

When I heard the garage track she did with Skream I thought the album was going to be a lot different than its turning out to be. I guess she scrapped that direction entirely since I don't see that track in the tracklisting for Food.

woot! I love it. Kelis is my favorite of all time. I love the Food album (judging from the snippets I heard on her Tumblr). I know I'll be buying that album when it drops.

Jerk Ribs is amazing! She has another song called "Farewell" that hit the net not too long ago. Whoever the hell said Kelis can't sing but have particles of sh_t stuck in their ears. cool

I like both "Jerk Ribs" and "Rumble". This is the sound that fits her best I think.

I love Jerk Ribs, Rumble isn't bad... I'm looking forward to the new album because I generally enjoy everything she does, but I am sad that the sound of Fleshtone is all but gone sad

If you will, so will I

Yeah I noticed that. Its a shame since it'll be a whole month and a half before it's officially released. I hope people still buy it. When your with an indy all those missed sales will really hurt.

This track didnt make the record. It's produced by Bass Hitter, The same guy behind "Farewell"

I love his melodies and production.

Thoughts on the album? Gave it a good listen this weekend, nothing really hit me over the head. Its not groundbreaking. A few bored moments. I think her vocals weren't really 100% on this one, sometimes she sounds a bit bored. Made me want to put on "Kelis Was Here".

I like it overall.. Its pretty solid, as there are no bad tracks, but I agree that nothing really hits you over the head either as being great. I think its more the type of album who's songs grow on you after many repeated listens.

Kelis Debuts New Material @ BBC 6 Music Festival

Mar 3, 2014

Kelis gave her U.K. fans a taste of her first album in four years at the BBC 6 Music Festival at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on Saturday.

Beaming in a gold metallic gown, the Harlem diva opened with a cover of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and served up her hits including “Milkshake,” “Trick Me,” and “Acapella.”

For the first time, she also performed material off her upcoming album Food including “Jerk Ribs,” “Rumble,” “Friday Fish Fry,” and “Cobbler,” during which she hit a whistle note that would make Mariah proud.

Her sixth album Food, produced entirely by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, arrives April 22 via U.K. indie label Ninja Tune.

Can I say how much I'm enjoying this album. I didn't know much about Dave Sitek before this as I've never listened to TV on the Radio, but he really gave her a complete makeover in terms of style/genre, and its actually quite pleasant. Im just afraid its so different from what she's done before that her regular fans won't buy it. It took me about 5 listens to really appreciate it because its not normally a sound that I'd go for.

I'm tempted to listen to the leak, but I can wait a month now that you say it's very good.
