Ohh, Cyndi's, definitely. No contest. nod

You do mean for 'softening' an enemy combatant prior to interrogation, right?

Not saying that Cyndi's is better than Marvin's (it isn't), but I do have a soft spot for her version. Cyndi has a great voice and I think she showcases it well here.

I think what's going on is very overrated and Marvin has far superior work, so cyndi

Obviously Marvin's version is better, but Cyndi's live version of it was far better than the studio recording. It was actually when I saw her do a live version of this song that I first realized what a remarkable performer she was. She's a very misunderstood and underrated artist. But I don't think you'd know it from this recording.

Cyndi or any other cover of this brilliant song? Cyndi Cyndi Cyndi.

She really pulled out a true and simple tribute to Marvin in this. Context! For the 80s in particular, this cut was on point, retaining the musicality of the song during a time when synths were most often used as a $teal from P rather than as original instrumenation.

Gladys was on par with Marvin in ...Grapevine, but I don't know of anyone who can jack a Marvin song - especially not WGO. (Would have been nice to hear Marvin do ...Imagination. I think it still woulda been her song though.)

Marvin Gaye Distant Lover Live Video

Kayne says this was Marvin's greatest video of all times. He really likes the end where M is down on his knees. I agree.

I love Cyndi like a second grade teacher (and I mean that with the utmost respect because my second grade teacher was cool) but:

I remeber when Cyndi's video for this came out, and the MTV VJ said something like, "Now here's Marvin Gaye's classic 'What's Goin' On'..." I thought it was going to be a clip of Marvin, but it was this cover version.

.

I actually cried.

.

I love Cyndi Lauper, and even did some minor audio consulting with her... she's a riot. BUT... that was just "wrong".

.

Meanwhile...what's goin' on with the Org?

I don't really care for Cyndi's' voice. I can only take her in moderation.
