Do You Think Robert Plant Could Have Done Soul Music?

I always thought he had a very strong voice. And he was inspired by blues, soul, and of course rock. i think he could have gone beyond the rock roots and done some great soul tunes!

What do y'all think?

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

What a silly question......

If Robert decided to walk on water tomorrow I'd say he probably could do so ...easily...as for singing Soul......He is Soul...He is Song.

If he wanted to do Opera I'd buy him the suit and silly dickybow....He can sing anything better then most ....maybe it's because he believes in his own voice but I could lose hours just listening to the man!!!

There are some great singers out there (Freddie Mercury being another) who are incredibly soulful but just couldn't do "sou musicl" in the general meaning of the term (Aretha, Marvin ect.). Plant is an amazing singer but like Freddie I couldn't picture him doing soul.

Since he referred to Black music on an interview on the TODAY SHOW as 'spook music', why not.

Led Zeppelin is blues to me. I don't know if soul would be the way I hear him singing. I know the two are not far removed but enh, I pretty much have him pegged.

Robert Plant's been singing amped-up takes on the the blues for nearly 50 years. "Soul" music as I think of it, though, is in the vein of Marvin, Stevie, Curtis, et al.
