Eric Gadd plays Prince and related artists for an hour on Swedish radio Swedish soul king Eric Gadd is a guest host for the Swedish radio show Musikguiden on public service station P3 this week, from 18:30-19:30 every day.
He started off on Monday talking about his own teens, how he and his best friend listened to Dirty Mind and dressed like Prince in school. How Mazarati became almost mythical to him and his friend, how he started making funk/soul on his own and that he always carried his own demo tape with him in order to give to Prince in case he ran into him. Which he eventually did, but failed to hand over the tape.
The songs he played during the show was a great showcase of the 80s Minneapolis scene and other favorites: Prince - Dirty Mind The System - You Are In My System
I had a great hour listening to that show! Tonight, Eric Gadd will be talking about and playing his favorite rap songs.
Swedes can check out info on the show at: http://sverigesradio.se/s...ramid=4067 The show is archived for 30 days, but I don't think you can listen from outside Sweden.

He's not very popular here in germany, I think most people don't know him at all. But years ago they tried to push him here and they played some of his videos on VIVA and MTV. I then bought 3 of his albums. I like his music and the prince influence is very obvious.
I didn't follow his career. Is he popular in sweden?

He comes and goes in the minds of the general public. Makes a TV appearance here and there, releases an album every 2-3 years.
Last year, he entered the qualifying rounds for the Swedish Eurovision tryouts but failed. I would definitely say that the 90s were his decade, his early stuff when he is singing in Swedish was very cool. The later soul stuff is not really my cup of tea.

@ Ludwig he's not that known to be honest, although he had some hits in the 90s. I think people who like soul music, knows him because he's a big "soul" lover. I think the general public wouldn't know him that well, at least not todays youth or todays mainstream audience. I was born in the 90s and I heard some of his songs on the radio and my mom liked him, but none of my friends know him.
@daha6439, kul att se fler Prince fans från Sverige. When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix
