Cee Lo Green denies that Bruno Mars wrote Fuck You with him

"As a producer, he wrote the music, he produced the song, but he didn't write the lyrics for me"

Which drives me crazy, note that Bruno can't take the credit of something he never wrote (because the ASCAP are very strict about credits), not to mention he respects Cee Lo, but in ASCAP press interview he said everything:

What's denied? If he says the other guy wrote the music, then I don't see a denial. It's like Elton John writes the music and Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics, which means they both wrote the song.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

No, he actually denied the fact that Bruno wrote "the lyrics", and Bruno actually did that... and Stern goes "He is actually getting a lot of credits for that" it's like "Hey Cee Lo go ahead and make your move, the dude doesn't deserve it"

I'm glad anyway Bruno got over ghostwriting sessions and he writes shit for himself now.

This is not really true. A lot of songs that are credited "Lennon/McCartney" were written separately. John's solo song Give Peace A Chance is also credited Lennon/McCartney, and Paul had nothing to do with it. There was a doo wop group called The Cadillacs that wrote some of their songs, but their manager registered the songs under her name only and she didn't write songs at all. She got the royalties and not the group.

I don't know who wrote what. Are you saying Cee Lo didn't write at all and is just taking a credit?

I'm confused about what Cee Lo denied himself. He stated Bruno co-wrote it anyway. Who cares? How old is that song? Three years? Four years? lol

Y'all wanna make me look like a time waster posting random threads?

I made this topic because of one thing: Cee Lo's denial of Bruno's songwriting in his own work, who cares about the money, and what Cee Lo said is fresh & new and mostly his only interview about Fuck You, it is strange that he said Bruno never wrote the lyrics while the second video makes sure that Bruno "wrote the lyrics", so I'm not a stan here but more like a doubter, I can't make sure if Bruno did that or he took credits just like that, because I'm a fan of Cee Lo before even Bruno showed up, and that sets the bar for something.

Anyway if y'all wanna keep talking about how silly is this thread go ahead and make my day, at least it's about something controversial rather than other boring posts, Non-Prince became such a mess.

Shawy, i understand you are a very hardcore Bruno fan and even though he gets on my last nerve i respect you being a fan.

With that said.. i think Cee-Lo and Bruno should be somewhat embarrased it took 5 guys! 5 freaking guys to write Fuck You. It is a great single.. but 5 guys?

Bruno & Cee-lo have written dozens of songs by themselves... yet need 3 others for this particular song? that tells me their heart was not 100% in it anyways.

I listened to the whole Stern interview and never got the impression that Cee Lo denied Bruno Mars wrote the the music to the song. It's one of the last things he says about the subject - Mars wrote the music, he wrote the lyrics.

You're getting upset because we don't see the same "denial" as you do?

Well, 5 ppl writing a song doesn't fully mean they wrote the lyrics, you participate in writing the song structure (chords and stuff) you're credited... and that's what led me to DOUBT if Bruno wrote the song, because Stern actually is right for saying he takes much credit for it, and then Cee Lo goes no he didn't write anything for me (like, the lyrics - not the arrangements)., so I'm doubting Bruno afterall... biggrin

The problem with this is you can have two people who actually wrote the song. In this sense, Cee-Lo and Bruno and then you have others who will get credit for "changing this part or changing that part".

I think that was true as far as Ari, Phillip and Brody were concerned and since Bruno works with Ari and Phillip (and probably Brody), he added them. Which is why I wish these acts discuss how these songs came together and what went on behind the scenes. This mystery on how eight people can be credited on a song that's not a sample is ridiculous.

Like I said, it's possible a few came up with edits and say "no it needs to go that way" and Bruno/Ceelo going "Oh OK." So Ceelo wrote the lyrics and Bruno the music and the others credited for edits. There. lol

Sometimes The Smeezingtons are such a mess and I wish Bruno goes solo "as a producer", Philip co-writes and Ari is the engineer.. Bruno's the producer but since they're The Smeezingtons they should be credited as "producer".. which sucks.

This is why i HATE when too many people write one song confused i guess this thread actually kind of goel in gel with the ghostwriting thread i made.

I actually... feel a little meh when an artist i really like who is known for good lyrics... had help. But even worse help from more than one person!

Hell, didn't it take like 8 people to write Baby by Justin Bieber? how the hell does that even happen? lol

Stevie Wonder wrote, produced, and played one EVERY track on Songs In The Key Of Life. David Byrne of The Talking Heads wrote all those crazy, eccentric lyrics on his own. Hell even R. Kelly who has made some AWFUL AWFUL songs... has wrote and produced on just about every song he made for himself or other people.

So it baffles me how simple and fun pop songs need more than one writer on it.

I think for Rihanna & Katy Perry cases, they just gather in the studio, drink champain and each one proposes a line, thats how it goes.. and if somebody assumed they're not actually co-writing they'd start bitchin about it.

And for ghostwriting, I mean c'mon, you can't hate every song that's not written by the artisrt, sometimes I listen to Thriller album or Bad album, half of those songs are not even written by MJ, but I can't hate him for that, yeah I feel sad that such a good songwriter as him lets other people write shit for him but his voice and all make it look so easy to bear
