Donna Summer remix album due in October

exclusive donna summer love is in control remix chromeo oliver

It's been over a year since our beloved Donna Summer passed away, but her marvelous music lives on!!!

Chromeo & Oliver just teamed up to remix one of her great singles, a 30-year-old hit called Love is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)! It's from a new remix album due in October.

from the Totally Unauthorized Donna Summer Tribute Site....

AUG 9] This is just a quick update for some breaking news. I have a couple of items, but let's start with Donna. First, we have a brand new Chromeo and Oliver remix of Love Is In Control. Notice that the SoundCloud account belongs to Verve Records. Yup, that's a label. smile Now this mix was an official surprise promoted by Donna's social media team. Here's the next part courtesy of Sebastiano over in Italy. (And if you haven't been to his site, you should go check it out!) He has discovered (because he was smart enough to check Verve's Facebook while I was slacking off LOL) that this is part of an upcoming album called Love To Love You Donna, due out in October. This may or may not be a coincidence, but a mix of Love To Love You by none other than Giorgio Moroder himself has turned up on YouTube. AND Louis Vega recently tweeted that Masters At Work are in a studio working on something. They didn't say what, but they gave the hint: Donna Summer. smile

YIKES!eek Her 70's material shouldn't be butchered with new remixes.

Her 80's albums need to be remastered and expanded to include the original remixes and extended versions. I hate it when DJs and Remixers take classic songs and remix them using more contemporary sounds. It very seldom turns out good. Just lots of loud thrashing. I'm sure some of her fans may like these new remixes. I'm just not much a club music fan.

As a house music DJ, I think it's a great way to keep their memory alive, (provided that it's done, tastefully) by that I mean, as long as you keep the original integrity of the recording then it's cool. Some Dj's have a habit of sampling the original vocals, in order to compensate for the new beat. I can't stand that. I'm digging, "Love's In Control", BECAUSE they kept the vocals of the original intact.

I love this 'Love To Love You Baby' remix. Once I hear it in my face or in my ears, I think I will like it even more when I hear the bass and all. I think the vocals sound just fine. I don't like it when they speed up vocals and the singer sounds like Mickey and/or Minnie Mouse or a chipmunk:) Long live the woman I call 'The Voice'.

The set will feature a number of re-workings from the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Hot Chip, Chromeo & Oliver, Frankie Knuckles, Eric Kupper and others.

Knuckles and Kupper have worked on a new version of 'Hot Stuff', while Hot Chip have remixed 'Sunset People'.

Love To Love You Donna was originally intended as a tribute record, but transformed into a full remix project.

However, the collection is not part of a longer album deal between Summer's estate and Verve Records.

Billboard: "Love to Love You Donna" will include remixes by Giorgio Moroder, Frankie Knuckles, Hot Chip & more.

The legacy of the late Donna Summer continues to live on, as a new remix album celebrating the diva's career is due out in October.

"Love to Love You Donna" will be released on Oct. 22 through Verve Records, and is produced by Dahlia-Ambach Caplin and Randall Poster. The project features new re-workings of classic Summer tunes from the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Frankie Knuckles, Eric Kupper, Chromeo & Oliver and Hot Chip, among others.

The legendary Moroder, who co-produced most of Summer's albums released between 1975 and 1980, contributes a pulsating remix of "Love to Love You Baby" for the project. Moroder recently premiered the cut live during his DJ set at the Way Out West festival in Gothenberg, Sweden (Aug. 9). Moroder co-wrote the song with Summer, and it became her first hit single on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 2 on the chart in February of 1976.

Knuckles and Kupper reworked "Hot Stuff" for the collection, while Hot Chip took on the classic album cut "Sunset People," from the "Bad Girls" album. The new set's first single is Chromeo & Oliver's remix of "Love Is In Control (Finger On the Trigger)."

A full track list for the album will be announced soon.

Donna Summer's Top 20 Biggest Billboard Hits

The project came together at Verve because of the long friendship between David Foster (Verve Music Group's Chairman) and Summer's family, says Mike Rittberg, Verve/Universal Music Group's VP of artist development/promotion. The set was initially conceived as a "tribute" album, but soon turned into a full-on remix project.

"Love to Love You Donna" is not -- at this point -- part of a longer-term, multi-album deal with Summer's estate and Verve Records. Summer earned a total of 32 hit singles on the Hot 100 in her lifetime, with 14 of those reaching the top 10, before she passed away in May 2012. She claimed a top 40 hit every year from 1976 and 1984, and between 1976 and the end of 1982, she had more top 10 hits (12) than any other act.

Her biggest singles include her four Hot 100 No. 1s: "MacArthur Park," "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls" and "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" with Barbra Streisand.

I hope that this project doesn't just focus on the "hits".Donna has alot of excellent,non-single tracks that are perfect for remixing.Maybe now, through this project, these songs can finally get the attention that they deserve....

"Our Love" (from 'Bad Girls')

"Take Me" (from 'I Remember Yesterday')

"Now I Need You" (from 'Once Upon A Time')

"Come With Me" (from 'A Love Trilogy')

"If It Hurts Just A Little" (from 'Donna Summer')

"Grand Illusion" (from 'The Wanderer')

"One Of A Kind" (from 'Live And More')

"True Love Survives" (from 'I'm A Rainbow')

the fact that they chose "Love Is In Control" as the first single is a good sign. That song was a big hit,but it's not one of her obvious, signature hits.

VERVE RECORDS ANNOUNCES "LOVE TO LOVE YOU DONNA" A REMIX RECORD OF DONNA SUMMER CLASSICS!

Verve Records has announced the release of LOVE TO LOVE YOU DONNA, a remix record celebrating the life and voice of five-time Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter Donna Summer. A dozen highly sought after DJs and remixers have contributed a diverse and creative spin to some of the most beloved tracks in dance and pop music history.

The first single is "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)," remixed by Chromeo & Oliver. It will be followed by legendary producer Giorgio Moroder's entirely re-imagined version of "Love to Love You Baby," the classic song he recorded with Donna, released in November of 1975.

Love to Love You Donna was produced by Dahlia-Ambach Caplin, the architect of the five-volume Verve Remixed series, and Randall Poster, the legendary producer and music supervisor.

Posthumously, Donna Summer will be awarded The Legends of Dance award at the Promo Only Summer Sessions, Tuesday, August 13th, in Atlantic City, NJ.

[AUG 18] The other big news for the week is that Verve Records issued the press release for the upcoming Love To Love You Donna remix album. Because of that, music columns and blogs everywhere are picking up the story - including Billboard. smile Here's what we know so far about the album. It's due out on October 22 (and Amazon USA has the pre-order available now), the first single will be the Chromeo and Oliver mix of Love Is In Control, to be followed by Giorgio Moroder's mix of Love To Love You. We'll also be getting a Knuckles and Kupper mix of Hot Stuff, and a Hot Chip mix of Sunset People. And according to Twitter, MAW is working on something too. Altogether there are supposed to be 12 remixers working on this album. Now this is a tribute I can really enjoy. Instead of having 12 artists sing Donna's songs (and let's face it no matter how great the artists are, they aren't Donna), they are keeping Donna's vocals and letting the remixers have some fun. And you know what? It's the DJs and remixers who have had a huge part in keeping Donna alive on the dance charts all these years - they are the prefect ones to do a tribute. Even better - they have the whole back catalog to choose from, so they can pick a song that speaks to them and go crazy with it. smile

lol just think of this as a fun little "tribute" by the DJs who love Donna's music. You still have the original songs to enjoy. And who knows, you may hear a remix that you like.

I am lovin' this news. It could be good. or it could be bad, but one won't know until it's heard. "Love To Love You, Baby" sounds good, from what I've heard. But, everyone has an opinion. I know!smile Just entertain the possibility that it is possible that a song can sound 'perfect' in its original form and in a remixed form as well.

^ Yeah, I know I am ruin the thread with my "harsh" opinion.. lol

But: I looove the original disco sound by Donna Summer... music

And, imo "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" is produced originally so beautiful by Quincy Jones... a disco classic.

therefor, I am not ready to hear a talentless "boom-boom" remix, yeah I know... "talentless" is in my opinion...

However. This can only turn out very very bad, this imho... sad sad sad sad

LOL. I resepect your opinion. I understand. I, however, never considered Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger) to be a disco song though. That's just me, though:) I say, any new or 'new' Donna Summer is welcomed by me. Put it out and let me hear it, then I will know if I like it or not.

yeah the box is nice nod such a shame that there aren't any bonus tracks and I don't even know if these CDs are remastered. The 'Live And More' CD is the same disc (issued in the late 80s) that features "Theme From 'The Deep' in place of the 'MacArthur Park Suite' disbelief

Don't think I'll be buying this set.

so happy that "Working The Midnight Shift" is included.Wish they had included "Now I Need You" as well. Those two songs (from the Once Upon A Time album) were really ahead of their time.Very edgy and adventurous. The remix possibilities are endless.
