They say, "Martin, maybe one day you'll find true love"
I say, "Maybe there must be a solution
To the one thing, the one thing we can't find"

I love it when he name drops himself. cool

^ABC always had a bit of humor/Camp to there stuff I mean look at the "goodbye" female vocal, just great stuff. Neill of the PSB mentions them numerous times in interviews and also did this lil tribute in Single Bilingual.

and after work explain how I feel
'Perdoneme me llamo Neil'
I'm single, bilingual
Single, bilingual.

I too loved their first album - with "Look of Love," "Poison Arrow," "Show Me," and "Valentine's Day." Then "Beauty Stab" came out and I really became a fan! I don't know why the second album didn't do so hot on the charts or with critics - but it is one of my favs. I liked how ABC was a new form of cool for the time, similar to Spandau Ballet, Sade, and Roxy Music. After 1992, the band kind of fell apart and has never been able to recapture the spirit that really gained commercial momentum with "When Smokey Sings" and "Be Near Me." Sad, but I still love 'em!

------

As a side note, wasn't it reported in the late 90's that Mark White (ABC musician) died of AIDS? I could have sworn that, but in looking at the history of the band online - he appears to be alive and well, at the age of 52, living in London and working as a Reiki master. (???)

At first, back in the day, I didn't take em seriously. Like LC said, that "humor" twist of theirs. It was almost like they were poking a bit of sarcastic fun at their contemporaries at the time.

But the cuts were just undeniable. Great stuff. Always brings a smile here. music

Looooove ABC. In fact, Absolutely ABC gets regular play in my iTunes.

And I'm pretty sure I made a striped circle skirt after I saw this video in the early 80s.
