New Music: George Duke + Teena Marie - "Ball & Chain"

Found on Duke's all-new Dream Weaver solo album, "Ball and Chain" is a melancholy jazz ballad with the late Teena Marie providing all vocals. It was intended for her Congo Square album, but was shelved because she wanted to use it on a prearranged collaborative jazz album with Duke. Think about what might have been.

Very nice! music

If she was still here, I could imagine her doing a full jazz album. Her last 4 albums especially La Dona, Sapphire and Congo Square usually started with R&B and progressed into jazz towards the end. Hopefully somebody somewhere has more unreleased tracks from Teena.

hardwork

This is REALLY great (the George Duke collaboration.) This is also REALLY great (the Danny Tenaglia collaboration below.) I am still quite shocked by the knowledge of her early passing. I loved that woman and her music dearly.

Wow I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I'm listening to "Secret Garden" now.

I have many of Duke's albums, and listening this one has been something extra fantastic. You're going to love it. I wasn't aware of her dabbling in jazz on other recordings. I shouldn't be surprised that she loved that type of music

given her phrasing and distinctive song arrangements.

Her first album has alot of jazz elements as did most of her CD's had at least a track or 2 with a jazzy feel. Got the CD today. I'll listen tomm.
