Don't know why the fuss, every song by JT, or Robin Thicke, or every other R&B artist who goes into more 70's disco vibes and sounds would seem to be inspired by Off The Wall, Jackson 5 EPs, some Marvin Gaye... It's just how it goes, but we shall see... I hope 20/20 Experience 2 changes my mind about JT me being a fan of ol' disco and funk, his first 10 tracks weren't that great for me anyway

he wishes anyway off the wall wasn't in the 80's it was in 1979 and still had a sound of the 70's disco era.. [Edited 7/9/13 17:07pm]

not true at all.. on his last song there's one song with MJ influence and it's "Let the groove get in"

I disagree.Everytime I hear a new Justin Timberlake song,I hear an MJ influence.I'm not saying that the songs aren't good (I like "Suit And Tie",for example),just saying that most of his songs are derivative.

this is the song where the influence of the most obvious ... note for note.

OFF THE WALL will always be, always stand as the quintessential r&b/soul album ever recorded on wax......
it never surprises when someone trys to emulate the excellent standard of music and production that album brought forth

There has been a small wave of retro on the radio so its a smart move to cash in on it. I like it.

Off the Wall was released towards the end of 1979. Most of its influence was felt in the '80s. (The same thing happened 10 years later for Janet's RN1814).
I'm excited for this release! Still digging the first album. "Let the Groove Get In" is one of my absolute favorites, so more like that one is definitely a good thing. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Obviously A LOT of his songs are influenced by MJ. But on songs such as "Pusher lover girl", "spaceship coupe", "that girl", "blue ocean floor", "Nothin else" "chop me up", "future sex lovesound" he sounds more influenced by other artists than MJ.. and I was refering to the production as well when i made that comment.. Production wise there werent many songs on the last album that had off the wall sound.. "suit and tie" had more 70s flavor to it..so Im expecting the new song to sound different than "suit and tie". If I owned this album on vinyl, I swear to you to grooves would have been worn out. I played "LTGGI" at least 3000 times in the first day!
I have enjoyed all 3 albums to the fullest. Strawberry Bubblegum was a near second for most favorite. Suit and Tie was great with the EXCEPTION of JayZ...his part just knocks my head bob all kinds of OFF!!!
I don't care if anyone copies or emulates R&B giants like MJ, just as long as it's good. Alicia Keys was killing me with her recent output until the song with Maxwell appeared. I'm like yessssss simple, sexy and classy. She stayed in her vocal range and it was perfect. Any new R&B sound being aired or getting attention I'm all in....they stick out so much on the radio that my ears consume the sound like some rabid animal ready to bite. It's a shame the state of music but that has been said here more times than I want to see. "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

Oh he always says shit like this. In fact his first album had more of a Dangerous sound but that just wasn't cool PR at the time.
