NEW YORK, N.Y. - Justin Timberlake, Elton John and Katy Perry are among the A-list performers set for this year's iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas.

Clear Channel announced the performers Monday. Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Keith Urban, Miguel, J. Cole and fun. will also perform at the two-day festival Sept. 20-21 at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Ryan Seacrest will host.

"We try to cover every genre our stations play with the lineup," said Tom Poleman of Clear Channel. "Someone like Elton John has been an icon on our radio stations for years, and for him to the take the stage alongside people like Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry I think really speaks to what makes the festival unique."

Tickets for the third annual festival go on sale Saturday.

The event will also include a festival dubbed iHeartRadio Music Festival Village. It will feature performances on two stages from Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne, Jason Derulo, Cher Lloyd and others. Tickets for that event are $20.

The festival will air live across Clear Channel's radio stations and as a two-night special on the CW Network on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.

Muse, Tiesto, Phoenix, Zedd, Tim McGraw, Ke$ha, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Benny Benassi and Queen with Adam Lambert will also perform during the main show.

From last night's concert in St. Paul, MN: Bruno getting his flirt on with Melissa in the front row! lol I love it when he interacts with people in his audience. He's so comfortable up on that stage. I think this is my favorite performance of the pickup lines that I've seen so far nod

Amy's Fact Of The Day: A Story of Hard Work Behind The Music of Bruno Mars

After Bruno was dropped by Universal Motown, less than a year of being signed, he stayed in Los Angeles and landed a music publishing deal in 2005 with Steve Lindsey and Cameron Strang at Westside Independent.

At this point, Bruno had met Philip Lawrence and the two decided that they would write and produce songs together for other artists. Cameron Strang told Forbes,

“Bruno came to the conclusion that the best way to further his career was writing and producing hit songs”.

During Bruno’s career beginnings, Steve Lindsey acted as a mentor to Bruno and helped him to hone his craft. Jeff Bhasker, who had met Bruno through Mike Lynn (the A&R at Dr Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment who first heard Bruno’s demo tape through his sister and flew him to LA), noted to American Songwriter that:

Steve Lindsey showed Bhasker and Mars the ins and outs of writing pop music. “He’d mentor us, and kind of give us lectures as to what a hit pop song is, because you can have talent and music ability, but understanding what makes a hit pop song is a whole other discipline.”

At the 2013 ASCAP Expo, a musician wrote about what she had learnt from Lindsey at the conference:

"[Steve Lindsey] told us the importance of knowing at least three hours of cover material. His point was, it is difficult to be a great songwriter without extensively studying great music on a daily basis. He told us that he held Bruno Mars back for five years while they learned an extensive catalog of hit music."

Also around 2005/2006, Phil Lawrence introduced Bruno to Aaron Bay-Shuck (A&R for Atlantic Records). Aaron wanted to sign him straight away but at the time, Atlantic felt that it was too early and that Bruno still needed development as an artist. Aaron persisted and continued to work hard for several years with Bruno and Phil in songwriting and producing for other musicians. The team’s big break came in 2009 with the song, Right Round for Flo Rida. Bruno and Phil’s schedule became busy with offers and adding Ari Levine into the team, The Smeezingtons were formed.

Early in 2009, Aaron booked The Smeezingtons for a songwriting session for Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B and Travie McCoy. Two songs were created out of that one week - Billionaire and Nothin’ On You. Playing these two records to the label, Aaron finally got Bruno signed to Atlantic Records. The deal was closed at the end of 2009 - ensuring that Bruno’s voice remained on the songs and that they would be the records to set him up as a signed solo artist.

By July 2010, Bruno had released Just The Way You Are as his debut single and the rest, as they say, is history.

Mars Attacks!

Last summer Bruno Mars teamed up with Travie McCoy to release the song “Billionaire,” a feel-good frolic about ten-figure fortunes and landing on the cover of FORBES. It was an unexpected hit, selling 2 million singles in two months and lending an unusual influx of cool to business journalism.

“I was tired of spending half my day worrying about what I can and can’t spend on whatever,” he says, explaining the song’s origins poolside in Hollywood Hills. “I wouldn’t have to worry about, you know, I can’t afford to get breakfast, so I’ll wait until lunchtime to eat.’ If I was a billionaire, none of that would matter. I’d be eating diamond cereal.”

His teeth are still intact, but he is inching closer to our cover. Since breaking through in 2009 by co-writing and singing the hook on B.o.B’s song “Nothin’ on You,” he’s had a hand in five number one singles and his solo debut, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, has sold 2.5 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide. FORBES estimates that Mars pulled in $8 million over the past 12 months–enough to make him a strong candidate for The Celebrity 100 someday soon.



“He’s just so talented,” says John Janick, co-president of Warner’s Elektra Records. “The rock alternative bands think he’s amazing, he has these pop hits and mass culture likes him, he’s got this rhythm-urban feel to him, and he can go into any of those worlds and make great-sounding songs.”

That makes Mars (real name: Peter Gene Hernandez) a promising profit center. But while writing and recording songs is lucrative–the bulk of Mars’ earnings currently comes from those avenues–the real money will flow when he starts filling arenas around the world. Though Mars has played 68 gigs in 13 countries over the past 12 months, most have been in small concert halls.

Contrast that to R&B crooner Usher (No. 32), who grossed $93 million on 81 shows over the past 12 months, according to concert data provider Pollstar, or boy wonder Justin Bieber (No. 3), who hauled in $77 million on 115 dates. Assuming both pocket about a third of gross ticket sales, that makes for take-home totals of $31 million and $25 million, respectively.

Mars’ manager, Brandon Creed, says his client’s goal has been to forgo big immediate payouts and build a loyal following by sticking to intimate spots where he can engage with his fans. He’s ramping up with 25 concerts alongside songstress Janelle Monáe through mid-June; a solo tour may follow. Mars actually rejected multiple offers to open for better-known pop acts on arena tours this year.

“He would have earned a lot more money and played in front of a lot more people,” says Randy Phillips, chief of concert promoter AEG. “Not a lot of artists would have had the balls to turn those opportunities down. He chose to play smaller venues to build his fan base and grow his career, and I respect him for that.”

Mars also has potential to join the ranks of well-paid celebrity endorsers. Although his camp says he wasn’t compensated for his reference to home exercise system P90X (he rhymes it with “really nice sex”) in his hit “The Lazy Song,” there’s no question that he’s getting a cut of another product mentioned on the same track: the Bruno Mars Snuggie, which you can buy for $25 on his website. The reference (“I’ll be loungin’ on the couch just chillin’ in my Snuggie”) slides seamlessly into the layabout anthem. “I’m not going to just take every dollar that’s offered, it has to fit right with my brand,” he says. “It has to be something I strongly believe in.”

Born in Honolulu to a Filipino hula dancer and a Puerto Rican percussionist, he made his onstage debut at 4 in a 1950s-style doo-wop revue put together by his parents, where he served as a precocious Elvis impersonator. “That’s how I got addicted to this music stuff,” he explains.

By then his father had already nicknamed the chubby youngster after wrestler Bruno Sammartino. Years later the slimmed-down singer would add Mars because friends joked that he was out of this world and because “it kind of puts a period at the end.” (Mars admits he also lengthened his moniker to differentiate himself from the Sacha Baron Cohen character of the same name.)

At 16 Mars landed a gig opening for a Waikiki Beach show called “The Magic of Polynesia.” But by the time he graduated high school he’d grown tired of the novelty act. He sent a demo tape to his sister, who was in Los Angeles working as a handbag designer. She played it for Mike Lynn, then an executive at Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment.

“My demo was terrible, I sounded like a chipmunk,” laughs Mars. “I was so young. But he heard something.”

Mars moved in with his sister in Los Angeles, and within a year he’d inked a deal with Universal Motown. When he wasn’t in the studio, he’d play to crowds of 10 to 20 people at dive bars along Ventura Boulevard with his cover band, Sex Panther. After a few months at Motown, though, he began to worry that he was spending a lot of time telling his collaborators what he wanted to sound like–and not actually achieving the desired sound. Apparently the brass at Motown shared his view and released Mars less than a year after signing him.

“My heart dropped out,” he recalls. “It’s not like the movies, where you get signed and you think hit songs are going to come to you and you tour the world. You’ve got to walk in there knowing exactly who you are.”

Mars hadn’t quite figured that out, and as a suddenly unemployed 19-year-old 2,500 miles from home he could barely afford to gas up his Jeep Cherokee. He considered giving up and returning to Hawaii before songwriter Philip Lawrence called Mars with an idea: Why not work together to write and produce songs for other artists? The duo teamed up with producer-songwriter Ari Levine, and the production team known as the Smeezingtons was born.

“He came to the conclusion that the best way to further his career was writing and producing hit songs,” says Cameron Strang, who signed Mars to a music publishing deal in 2005.

Three years later Mars met with Aaron Bay-Schuck, an artists and repertoire exec at Warner’s Atlantic Records, and played the hook and track for “Nothin’ on You.” Bay- Schuck was so impressed that he decided to buy it on the spot, and within days Mars had a new record deal as an artist. His debut album hit stores in October; plans for another are in the works. “The experience of going from obscurity to celebrity is going to make for a very rich and exciting new album,” says Warner recorded music chief Lyor Cohen.

Considering Mars’ backstory, it’s easy to forget that he is only 25 years old. Another album and more touring could double his income next year. In the meantime he isn’t getting ahead of himself. As for landing on our cover, “I thought FORBES was a way to show [that] if I was a billionaire, I’d be smart with my money,” he says, then grins devilishly. “At first it was Playgirl, but then I changed it.”

Bruno Mars pushes ahead with sophomore album

NEW YORK (AP) — Bruno Mars was jealous of Amy Winehouse because he wanted to do what she did: release genre-bending songs that connected with audiences around the world.

"I felt like everything I've been saying, everything I wanted to do, she did it. It was one of those things like, 'Damn it! Damn it!' It was perfect," the singer-songwriter-producer said in a recent interview.

Winehouse, who died last year, won five Grammy Awards for 2007's "Back to Black," including album of the year.

"You couldn't put it in a box 'cause it could be played on rock stations, it could be played on rhythmic stations, it could be played on pop radio, and I've always wanted to make music like that — that could be spread out, and can't be pigeon-held to one thing," he said. "And they did it. Her and Mark Ronson."

Mars was signed to Universal Motown when he grew envious of Winehouse, who released "Back to Black" on Motown's sister label, Universal Republic.

Though his record deal fell through, the crooner had a breakthrough in 2010 on Atlantic Records with his multisounding, near-double platinum debut, "Doo-Wop & Hooligans." And this week he's releasing an album full of even more sounds with "Unorthodox Jukebox." It features Ronson, who has produced for Lily Allen, Adele, Nas and Q-Tip.

"(I was) not thinking about business or radio or politics, just doing what I love to do and that's creating music," Mars said. "Whether it be a reggae song, rock song, a love song, the main thing was just to, whatever I was feeling, to try to capture that emotion."

The 27-year-old talked about his sophomore album, which includes production collaborations with Jeff Bhasker, Diplo, Paul Epworth, Emile Haynie and the Smeezingtons, the production trio that includes Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine.

The Associated Press: You and the Smeezingtons wrote your entire debut album. Why did you decide to reach out to other writers and producers on your new album?

Mars: Why not? That's when the fun comes in. Now, it's time to have some fun. Let's put the dream band together. ... I love their take on pop music. ... It was a big ole science project.

AP: Did you listen to the radio while recording the album?

Mars: No, not because I didn't want to listen to the radio, it's more because I generally, literally locked myself in the studio. Like, we were in the studio. In the dark. No windows. Nothing. Like, it got bad. Beard down to here (points to floor). Everyone smelled like cabbage.

AP: What's it like putting out an album following the success of "Doo-Wop & Hooligans"?

Mars: Well, I feel like you have to constantly keep proving yourself, and you have to constantly keep getting out there and showing them you're more than just that one song on the radio that's just playing. And that's what I had to do the first time around; I had to keep going out there and keep performing live.

AP: Lyrically, what made you write the song "Young Girls"?

Mars: On that song I remember feeling like an old blues man, and I wanted to talk about the young girls that are just giving me the runaround, and basically it's kind of the sentiment like you're looking for love in all the wrong places. It's very easy to do and I'm sure a lot of people have done it. You know, you go out every night and you're drinking and you're having a good time. There's a moment when you get lost; you get lost in the sauce! And you know, reality sets in and basically ... you can't be looking for love ... in nightclubs and being intoxicated.

AP: Your parents are also musicians. What do they think of your music?

Mars: They've been my biggest support, my mom and dad. No one believed in me more than they did. And I'm talking about some things on this album that are not the most comfortable to play for your mother (laughs). But she knows. She understands and I talk to her and I tell her if I don't write what comes to me then I become a cartoon. And she understands it and supports me 100 percent.

AP: Will you collaborate musically with them?

Mars: We are the world. Just me and mom and pops, my cousins in there. I mean, I'd like to. You know my sister sings, my brother plays drums in my band. My whole family is a bunch of musicians. So, when the right time comes, you'll see it on some kind of reunion tour, CBS special, 'Behind the Music: Bruno's Family,' trying to revive my career.

Timberlake, Macklemore, Mars get MTV VMA nominations

Nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards are in, and — surprise! — Justin Timberlake got a bunch. Six, to be exact, including video of the year, for Mirrors.

Timberlake's rivals in that top category include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Thrift Shop, featuring Wanz), who also received six nods, and Bruno Mars (Locked Out of Heaven), who collected four, the second most of any artist.

Robin Thicke (Blurred Lines, featuring T.I. and Pharrell), who received three nominations — the same number as Pink, Miley Cyrus and 30 Seconds to Mars — and Taylor Swift (I Knew You Were In Trouble) round out the field. Swift was tapped twice, as were Drake, fun., Calvin Harris, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and first-time nominees Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey.

Contenders for best video with a social message, a category introduced in 2011, include Kelly Clarkson's People Like Us, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's Same Love, Snoop Lion's No Guns Allowed, Miguel's Candles in the Sun and Beyoncé's I Was Here.

Fans can now vote in general categories, among them video of the year and artist to watch, at the VMAs site or by texting VOTE to 22444. Nominees for an additional new, socially voted category, best song of the summer, will be announced Aug. 12.

The VMAs will air live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

isn't it funny how Bruno can be nominated as best r&b artist and yet his record label hardly ever goes for radio adds for his singles on Urban radio? i have NO idea why they do that because a song like Treasure fits that format

^Interesting, it may be because his record label considers him to be more pop than r&b? But the songs from Unorthodox Jukebox cover a variety of genres so I would think they would be having his songs played on various radio formats.

I don't know how to upload videos and/or paste pics on here so I need assistance on that too. I attended the Moonshine Jungle concert in Chicago and St. Paul, MN. My experiences were AMAZING! My review of both concerts are pretty much the same as Naughty Kitty's review. EXCEPT I actually talked to and took pic w/ Phil and their road manager Steven! I also got a pic of the rest of the band on their way to dinner. I also saw Bruno as he shortcutted to his bus he waved! SWOON* No pic though. sad Bruno wore the same casual outfit for both concerts but he still looked and most importantly sounded amazing. The concery lasted about 2 1/2 -3 hrs. Bruno's portion in Chicago was about 2hrs. In Minnesota was about 1 1/2 hrs including encore.HE IS AMAZING! YOU MUST SEE HIM LIVE! I WANT TO SEE HIM a 3RD TIME!!!!

EDMONTON - “Hello,” cooed Bruno Mars at the start of Thursday’s sold-out show at Rexall Place.

“You know you look even better than you did the night before.”


You know the Hawaiian-bred soul-pop star says the same thing to each one of his audiences. Those aren’t just off-the-cuff words — those are the opening lyrics to Moonshine, one of 10 tunes from his second album, Unorthodox Jukebox. Clever, eh?


For the most part, his show was smart and slick — a fun and feverish display of soul-pop, R&B and reggae, powered by his smooth voice, mega-watt smile, and his street gang of musicians/dancers, known as The Hooligans.


With every one of the curly-haired singer’s grins, finger points or hip gyrations, 13,000 girls and grandmas jumped, screamed and waved what looked more like light sabres than glow sticks. Yet as charismatic and talented as he is, Mars didn’t come off as an egotistical superstar — he relied on his six musicians, who orbited him tightly like a pack of moons for most of his 90-minute set.

They followed him around onstage with their horns, guitars, and tambourines, often singing with Mars and busting out simple, yet elegant dance moves during Treasure and a cover of Barrett Strong’s Money (That’s What I Want), which segued nicely into his collaboration with Travie McCoy, Billionaire.


Comparisons to the Jackson 5 were inevitable — though Mars and his crew weren’t afraid to get a little more raunchy, singing a medley of slow R&B tunes, including Ginuwine’s Pony.

After he finished sexin’ the crowd, Mars turned his sights on doin’ the right thing — singing Marry You, a ’50s sock-hop ditty, and then If I Knew, a slow-dance number which had fans with busting bladders running for the bathrooms. I guess he knew when to time the pee breaks in his set. Clever, eh?

Not so clever: Mars and his crew weren’t letting newspaper photographers or videographers shoot Thursday’s show. Instead, the pop star offered to let the Journal use shots from his June show in Philadelphia — which is considerate, I guess, but also strange. (We opted to use one from New York City.)

While arena shows rarely change from city to city — maybe a song here or there — don’t you want to believe his Edmonton gig was special, or at least somewhat different enough to warrant its own photographs? Don’t you want to think YOU’RE special, or at least somewhat different than the crowds on his other stops?

After all, this is the same guy who likes to tell us: “Girl, you’re amazing / Just the way you are.”

Of course, he saved Just the Way You Are, a sweet piano ballad, for the end of Thursday’s set — complete with a crowd singalong. Right back at ya, Bruno. Boy, you’re amazing, just the way you are — so please don’t feel camera-shy when you perform. We want to show the world how amazing you are. In Edmonton. Not Philadelphia or New York.

If Bruno is from Mars, one of opener Ellie Goulding’s electro-pop songs mentions Venus — Hanging On, featuring rapper Tinie Tempah. Of course, she didn’t perform it — she selected 10 other tunes, including Don’t Say A Word, Figure 8, Only You and her first hit, Lights.

As earthy as Mars was, Goulding was ethereal. Her breathtaking voice sounded like some alien mix of Kate Bush, Björk and Regina Spektor. Yet Goulding didn’t seem like a delicate pixie — she was an awkward dancer, more angular than graceful. At times, she looked like she was about to start a mosh pit — pogoing across the stage, thrashing her hair, but her heart didn’t totally seem into her 40-minute set.

“Edmonton you were a tad bit more reserved than the rest of the Nation,” she tweeted, which started a mini firestorm on Twitter.

“Sadly ... we were reserved because the sound was muddy and we couldn’t hear you,” replied Lynne Mercereau. “I’m sorry this city sucks, it always has!! Haha Vancouver will be 10,000,000 times better,” tweeted LoverDearest13.

Whatever your opinion, Goulding should’ve stayed onstage longer than 40 minutes. After she left, fans were forced to wait another 47 minutes for Mars, enduring car commercials and terrible pre-recorded sketches featuring some old white dude giving not-so-funny lectures about marksmanship and monocles. Just what every teenage girls wants.

Ditch the skits, dude. He might’ve been passable as the host of Saturday Night Live, but Mars really needs to stick to music.

Bruno Mars wowed Edmonton fans at Rexall Place on Thursday

It’s as if Bruno Mars went back in time to steal your older brother’s R&B record collection - and then came back to the present to pass it off as his own.

So we get hints of James Brown, suggestions of Stevie Wonder, homages to the Jackson 5, along with disembodied random similarities to Marvin Gaye and Prince and Bob Marley and Kool and the Gang, and hell, just name your favourite soul star of yore and chances are that Bruno Mars has copped it and hammed it up to grand proportions for mass consumption. The man is a sponge.

We have to raise the bar high because a talent like his doesn’t come along every day. For every 99 flash-in-the-pan acts that suck on top-40 radio, there is one Bruno Mars. The ratio may be far lower than that. He has an amazing gift and he knows it. Performing a sold-out show for 15,000 fans at Rexall Place Thursday night, the Hawaii native proved to be at least a triple threat as he veered expertly through the milestones of his obvious influences. He’s an incredible singer, a great showman and he can play guitar, too.

And his songs? He’s only got two albums, but already a plethora of popular hits that are almost, but not quite, destined to stand the test of time.

The first “superstar” moment came in Billionaire - following a quick reading of the old Motown hit Money (That’s What I Want) - in which he expresses the desire to be a billionaire “so f---ing bad.” Millionaire isn’t good enough anymore. Guitar in hand, Mars slowed the song right down at the point where he’s “smiling next to Oprah and the Queen” and drank in the cheers from a delirious, mainly female crowd. Yes, the fans seemed to be saying, we want to be billionaires, too!

Powered by a groovy band well drilled in the art of Temptin’ Temptations dance moves, the night moved quickly through the various avenues of the R&B canon. Aside from his smoove moves and swoon-worthy appeal, the singer’s obvious devotion to his source material showed through the bombast. Old school ballads like When I Was Your Man and Just the Way You Are (not to be confused with Billy Joel) showed off his vocal chops beautifully. The giant mirror ball was a nice touch. Mars went even further into emotive overdrive on songs like Grenade, basically a list of tortures the protagonist would endure for his one true love – get run over by a train, get crushed by a crane, crash a plane in Spain, something like that – before pointing out sadly that she wouldn’t do the same for him. Who could blame her? Sounds kind of needy there.


In other words, Al Green he’s not. In the end, it all sounds sort of familiar, not particularly original, not classic. Not yet, anyway. He’s young.

Opening act Ellie Goulding was one of these British artists that the British are so frightfully supportive of, but it’s a good guess that a good chunk of this crowd didn’t have a clue who she was until the end of the set when she played her “hit” - and that’s when you realize, oh, yeah, it’s that chick on the radio. Speaking of stuff that sucks on the radio.


Before the song “Lights” came along, and even then, there was little to recommend from a dreary demonstration of electronic dance-pop music marked by vocals so airy and processed that they sounded fake, even if they weren’t. And despite the game efforts of her band of mannequin musicians to convey a “live” feel, the vibe was cold, the delivery precious and the songs forgettable. And here’s a memo to bands aping Mumford and Sons by having band members whomp on random drums strewn about the stage: Quit it.

Bruno Mars takes fans out of this world

Peter Gene Hernandez was raised in Hawaii in a family of musicians.


The artist, better known as Bruno Mars, is hugely successful with a string of addictive singles that jump genres with ease. At 50 million-and-counting sold, it’s inevitable that his music appears in a lot of different programming formats.


It was still a first heading to the gate at Rogers Arena on Saturday for Mars’ packed-to-the-rafters performance and running the racket of four different radio station booths cranking out Mars’ music at the same time.


The Moonshine Jungle Tour, in support of his second album Unorthodox Jukebox, proved this was no fluke.


Ranging in age from five to over 55, the crowd was so uniformly pumped up for the performance. They got the sort of hardcore old soul/rock review one would expect at the Apollo in its heyday, dressed up with all the latest tech that stardom can deliver.


Mars is a dynamic dude who stated clearly that his goal was to make people move and the double whammy of Natalie and Treasure meant that the only people in their seats couldn’t get up.

His nine-piece band strutted and pranced like they were straight off of the Soul Train Revue — complete with vintage camera filters on the five backing screens lending a classic air to it all.

But the seamless move from the Beatles’ Money to Billionaire — complete with a few verses from Aloe Blaac’s I Need A Dollar — was totally right now.


He played almost all of Unorthodox Jukebox and not just singles from the breakout 2010 debut Doo-Wops & Hooligans and nobody screamed out for a single song they were so entranced. The guy can seduce an audience like few can do.


During the smooth Our First Time, just finger snaps, vocals and some bumping and grinding delivered everything the studio version does and more. His confidence in re-working his material to suit the show is a welcome change from the majority of contemporary acts who can’t improvise a note for fear of missing a sequence or synth patch.

Not that much was left unscripted or unrehearsed — it was exact. But it felt like it was that moment for us alone and that is what you expect from a class act. Mars is that.

He’s not going anywhere but up, too. The James Brown and Michael Jackson comparisons are utter dross at this point.
However, he has that kind of ­charisma and chops to spare.

Opener Ellie Goulding and her crack band are far sharper than they were for the singer’s packed Commodore show earlier this year.

The English electro-pop artist had many fans in the crowd and got them out of their seats and singing along to Anything Can Happen keeping them there with that rarest of things, a warm-up set that truly served its purpose.

Goulding’s singles are as good as it comes for arena pop — the chorus and build for I Need Your Love was ridiculously good — and she has no intention of being an opener for long.

The next album is clearly going to be something of a deal breaker. If she can capture the live energy, it’ll ­happen.
