For the show's encore/finale, Bruno changed up his usual stage constume just a bit by wearing a hat! biggrin

Oh Bruno....did you decide to wear the hat because of what Jon Caramanica said about you in his NYTimes review the other day?

You could argue that Philip Lawrence — one of Mr. Mars’s writing and producing partners in the Smeezingtons and his main background singer and hypeman here — stood out more, simply for accenting his outfit with a hat.)

Bruno's been reading the reviews wink razz

I could tell from NaughtyKitty's efforts, that it was going to be a great show, but DAMN!!!!

I went with wonder505, and our seats were high, but we have pretty decent cameras...

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of my pictures- far but good.

I immediately got online to find out how close the next show is...

Being a teacher sucks in the summer (despite the constant wisecracks and digs).

I can't afford to go anywhere else on this budget. pout

Again, I say faint

LMFAO, Bruno Mars top ASCAP's foreign royalties for 2012

If you thought LMFAO and Bruno Mars were ubiquitous in this country, good luck trying to avoid them overseas.

Songs from both artists, already massive hits at home, were huge earners outside the United States last year, according to an analysis by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, or ASCAP, which collects performance royalty revenue for songwriters, composers and music publishers.

Of the top 10 earning songs of the year for ASCAP members, four were recorded by Bruno Mars. Although LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” scored the most revenue internationally, Bruno Mars swept the next three spots. “Just the Way You Are (Amazing)” took the No. 2 spot, followed by “Grenade” and “The Lazy Song.” “Marry You” was seventh.

Like competitor BMI, ASCAP collects royalties from public performances of songs, which include plays on TV, radio, the Web and in restaurants. Top countries for ASCAP royalty collections include Britain, France, Germany, Canada and Japan.

Bruno Mars had especially strong showings in Germany and Canada but didn’t dominate everywhere.

In France and Japan, top earners included some oldies, specifically ones from popular American films. In France, “Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky)” and “Over the Rainbow” took second and third place, respectively, after “Party Rock Anthem.”

In Japan, “Shall We Dance,” from “The King and I,” and “Footloose” were big earners for U.S. songwriters and composers.

As the economies in foreign countries grow and performance right organizations develop, ASCAP is collecting more money from overseas than it did a decade ago.

In 2012, the organization’s foreign revenue topped $340 million, more than double its 2000 foreign revenue of $128 million. As that revenue has grown, it has also increased its share of ASCAP’s total. Foreign share of ASCAP revenue was 36% last year, compared with 22% in 2000.

In all, ASCAP takes in about six times what it pays out to performance rights organizations in other countries. That underscores the popularity and value of American music, said John LoFrumento, chief executive of ASCAP.

“American repertory has the highest popularity in the world,” LoFrumento said. “American music is what you hear when you arrive in Amsterdam or Singapore. When you arrive in a foreign capital and the cab driver’s taking you to your hotel, you’re hearing American music."

ASCAP collects royalties from performances in foreign countries through its agreements with fellow rights organizations in those territories. It currently collects from 100 such groups, recently adding Uganda.

ASCAP’s largest affiliate partner is Britain, from which it receives about $50 million a year for American songs. In Britain, top-earning songs other than “Party Rock Anthem” were “Best Thing I Never Had” by Beyonce, and “F*** You,” by Cee Lo Green.

Brazil, which has recently experienced an economic boom, saw its payments to ASCAP increase more than any other territory.

However, the slow growth of the worldwide economy in general has recently dragged down revenue growth.

Also, broadcasters in China, India and Russia continue to play U.S. works without compensating songwriters. In 2012, ASCAP collected about $100,000 from India and $50,000 from China.

LoFrumento said ASCAP is taking steps to pressure governments in those countries to protect performance rights.

.We lucked out. I got Tix on Sunday from a reseller (not much of a discount but near the face value)....Not horrible seats but not my usual close seat and pretty hight up.....s but I was just happy to get to go again:)..I also noticed they were dropping seasts (TM) in section 19 the day of...I don't know if I would suggest waiting. I believe the reason that happened is because there was a Philly show and NYC so the chances of having a few extras for the NJ was higher....

Once again the guy did not disappoint. It was an amazing show....It is like a drug...I want to go again..now I need to go again but don't know how I am going to swing that.

We took our 9 yo..yes young but she likes him. I figured it it was one of things when she grows up--I am assuming he will still be around b/ c I think he has what it takes and she will remember it...It is nice to see everyone around you... having a truly genuine time and dancing and singing.

People are not standing bc they feel they have to..they WANT to.

I didn't look at my photos I don't think I have good ones....Do have one with Bruno Mars' dad....that was the closest we got..smile

Wow, thanks Vandeluca! Love how you say his shows are like a drug-from the performances I've seen on Youtube I can totally see how addicting they are! I can only imagine what its like seeing it live in person eek And I agree with you about Bruno being around for a very long time as well. He's already a great artist, but I believe he's got the potential to be really GREAT--perhaps even a legend in the making smile And you got a pic of Bruno's dad! biggrin So he went to go see his son again last night? So sweet of him! Nice to see him support his son.

A fan's review of last night's concert in NJ:

Bruno Mars- The Moonshine Jungle Tour

I saw Bruno Mars July 1, 2013 at the Prudential Center in Newark and I can honestly say it was the best concert that I have ever been to, and will probably ever see. I praise the man so much because just a few weeks before he started the tour his mother passed away. However he continued the tour, and still created a masterpiece performance. And let me tell you it was some performance. He is so versatile with his music; one minute he was singing, the next playing guitar, the next playing the piano, and then the drums! The man never stopped!

The lights were above and beyond what was expected, as well as the disco ball. It literally felt as if you were transported back to the 1970’s; just a totally different time period. As for his band;
amazing. What I really enjoyed was the fact that the concert wasn’t just about him. He allows his other band members to show their talents as well, and let them have a good time by knowing that the concert isn’t just for Bruno. I really cannot get over the choreography as well. It was so put together and very in sync. It would have been cool if it was just Bruno dancing, but when it was all of the band dancing together it made it 10x better. Lastly, his vocals… They were heavenly. I truly believe that Bruno Mars has some of the best talent for this generation.

During award shows you see people getting praised for their lip singing and dancing meanwhile Bruno is dancing and singing at the same time, and might I add very well. His range is incredible, and when he hits those high notes you easily just melt. Also I liked the way that he transitioned into his next songs. It wouldn’t be just sing the song, stop, and then sing the next one. You can tell that he took time into thinking what order he was going to sing his songs and how he was going to make a smooth transition from one to the other. I also
loved the way that he remixed his own songs. There would be a rockerish feel to one song, and then a reggae song next, and also adding trumpets and unique instruments to his songs gave it such flare.

I can go on and on, but what I mean to say that this concert was literally life changing and I really don’t think that any other concert will live up to this.

Review of last night's concert:

Bruno Mars And Fitz And The Tantrums Delight With The Moonshine Jungle Tour! Interview with Noelle Scaggs!

KRISTYN CLARKE JULY 2, 2013

Jungle rhythms played before Bruno Mars graced the stage decked out in a fabulous red leisure suit looking very Jackson 5- ish with his full live band in tow looking just as dapper as they launched into the opening song “Moonshine” followed by “Natalie” and then “Treasure”. The performance was incredibly well-choreographed and it was quite apparent that a ton of time and energy was spent on the production elements for this tour. In fact, even Bruno Mars himself was urging the crowd, made up of mostly young teens with the cell phones held high in the air, to put down the phones and actually spend some time getting into the music and the show.

I am running the risk of sounding a bit opinionated here, but I could not agree with Bruno more on this issue. So many fans are missing absolutely fantastic moments and the chance to actually feel the music and energy that is pouring forth from the stage because they are too busy trying to get the best camera phone pic or video and end up watching most of the showing hiding out behind a glowing phone screen. This is absolutely not the best way to enjoy a show and I am happy to hear more and more artists such as Bruno Mars beginning to shed some light on the issue by calling these “camera fans” out from the stage.

The fun and engaging retro vibe of this show was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed jamming out to the rest of the evenings set list which included “Money That’s What I Want” mashed together with “Billionaire” and a fun version of the Soul For Real song “Candy Rain” which Bruno performed spot-on! Things began to get hot and heavy with Bruno’s steamy spotlight performance of “Our First Time” mashed with Ginuwine’s “My Pony” and it definitely left everyone in the crowd quite hot and bothered, and we loved every minute. The timing of “Marry You” could not have been more perfectly balanced into the set and Bruno and the rest of the band had quite a bit of fun with a young lady in the crowd teasing her with some hilarious pick-up lines and lessons in R&B 101.

My favorite had to be “Hi, baby…nice to meet you! I’m the guy on the ticket”, it was hilarious! Bruno Mars is an absolute powerhouse as a live performer and I took great joy watching him not only sing but also play many various instruments throughout the evening such as both electric and acoustic guitar as well as drums. This man can really do it all!

Bruno’s main set wrapped up with all of the hits such as “When I Was Your Man”, “Grenade”, and “Just The Way You Are” and his encore consisted of “Locked Out Of Heaven” and “Gorilla”. All in all it was a fabulous night of good times and great music and I highly recommend checking out the tour when it hits your city or town.

Review from a fan who attended last night:

Moonshine Jungle Tour: Round 2

Bruno Mars at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ: July 1, 2013

Last night Bruno tore down the house yet again for his sixth show of the Moonshine Jungle Tour US leg. Since I saw them a week ago in Philadelphia, they have improved so much. Bruno and the band seem a lot more relaxed and like they’re definitely getting into their groove. It’s safe to say that by the time the summer’s up, this tour will be completely flawless, as if it isn’t already.

My review from the June 24th show basically covers all the itty bitty details I love about the show (http://taytripper612.tumb...ine-jungle). All those things hold true for last night’s show and then some. Bruno’s vocals were fucking killer last night. There’s nothing I can do but sit back in pure amazement that he can perform at such a high caliber night after night. The people behind me, two men might I add, were constantly saying how amazing he was just to give you an idea.

It’s hard to highlight specific parts of the show because it’s all so incredible, but I’ll try my best. The intro got me again, it’s just the coolest thing. Show Me/Our First Time was the sexiest thing I have ever seen on a stage, and now I’ve seen it twice. Phil is awesome at ad-libbing as he showed us during the pickup line interlude. He came up with a poem that rhymed with the girl’s name and it was hilarious. Nothin’ On You was awesome. I love this song and it has a special place in my heart. I remember when I first heard it and became obsessed with it in 2010, so to hear it live now in 2013 as a true Hooligan was awesome. I love the beginning part and his vocals are so smooth.

Grenade is possibly one of my favorite live arrangements of this tour. John’s piano solo in the beginning is amazing (I took a video this time) and an awesome way to start the song. The lights add so much effect and are visually the coolest thing I’ve ever seen an artist do. Just the Way You Are seemed particularly emotional last night. Bruno was really enjoying the audience and had his earpiece out for a lot of the song and was grinning from ear to ear.

The encore was just killer again. Bruno wore a hat for the first time this tour! I love watching Bruno do the pre-Locked Out Of Heaven drum solo because he gets so into it. I just now am realizing that he uses the “Fellas I’m ready to get up and do my thang" from James Brown’s song Sex Machine during the solo. That’s awesome. LOOH was amazing and energetic and I just love the confetti and how it makes the arena look. Gorilla. I will forever be in love with this song and his performance of it. He got down on his knees for the falsetto which just kills me. I’m still amazed how he hits those notes with ease. When the lift lowered down it didn’t seem like Bruno wanted to leave. He just kept singing and jumping up and down. So much energy and such an awesome finale.

A sidenote on seats… The night before the show and up until about 7:00 there were still seats available for the show on ticketmaster: ones way better than what I got the minute they went on sale. After Ellie Goulding left the stage and showtime got closer and closer, I was still noticing seats that weren’t filled, despite the fact that the show was “sold out." So about 10 minutes before Bruno took the stage I ditched my seats for better ones and it was a good decision because nobody bothered us about doing it and I had a much better view. I’m not encouraging everyone to do this because security might be different at all the venues, but keep it in mind.

It was amazing to experience the Moonshine Jungle twice. I have so many memories to keep with me for the rest of my life from these two nights. Bruno Mars is an incredible artist and musician and I love him and everything he does for music. The world is very lucky that we get to see him share his talent with us. The show put on for this tour is flat out incredible. Period. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Bruno Mars is the most talented performer and musician I have and may ever encounter. There’s nobody out there doing what he does. I can’t wait until I get to see Bruno live again, no matter how long it takes. Thank you Bruno.

Bruno Mars is a champ in his Pittsburgh debut

Share with others:

As soon as we heard him sing the hook on "Billionaire," it was like, "Wait. Who's THAT?" We knew the guy could sing. But who would have laid down money that three years later, Bruno Mars would be headlining Consol Energy Center, let alone packing it?

Two albums and a whole slew of hits later, that's what he did Tuesday night on his Moonshine Jungle Tour.

Mars might not be Prince (who is?), but the 27-year-old Filipino/Puerto Rican star from Honolulu is on the track and has similar ambitions to inject new life into the ghosts of "Soul Train," right down to the line dances.

When the elegant black curtain with the gold palms dropped, he hit the stage in a black suit and leopard top and immediately took his place in a front line with four of his singers/musicians -- clearly more interested in blending in than standing out.

The humble gesture is charming. For the next 90 minutes, though, he did it all. James Brown dance moves, Chuck Berry guitar riffs, Sam Cooke vocal chops, MJ vocal chops, even a drum solo!

Mars is genre non-specific, so he and his band, with three-piece horn section by his side, glided from the disco of "Moonshine" and "Treasure" to the reggae-pop of "Billionaire" to the old-school soul of "Candy Rain" and funk of "Runaway Baby." For starters.

Although he's new to the pop world, he's been performing since he was a kid and has classic tastes, which explains why he didn't rely on the typical awards-show type production. Other than the lights being more high-tech and the explosive finale, this wasn't far removed from a '70s show with the pure focus being the band's tight groove and his silky vocals. On "Marry Me" and "Young Girls," among others, he and the "Moonshine" band showed how they can break it down as well.

That's all he really needs to wow his fans. He reinforced that vibe, saying, "What up, Pittsburgh? What's good? We waited a long time to play for y'all," then adding, "Our job is to get y'all moving, get y'all shaking, but you can't really do that with your camera phones in your hand, can you?!"

Late in the set, when he rolled out "When I Was Your Man" and "Just the Way You Are," he raised the roof with a lovely girl choir of thousands before the band took it on home. In between, they set off "Grenade" as a rumbling rocker with his own stinging guitar solo.

He started the encore with a furious drum solo before stepping forward to hit the ridiculous highs of "Locked Out of Heaven" and down, dirty grind of "Gorilla," which finally prompted the blasts of pyro.

You could say unequivocally that in his Pittsburgh debut, Bruno, like the Sammartino he was nicknamed for, was nothing short of a champ.

Ellie Goulding was an interesting choice for the tour as she's almost like an accidental acquaintance to Top 40. The British artist, working in the tradition of a Sinead O'Connor, threw herself into dreamy, dramatic art-rock songs punctuated with primal percussion. She even had her own little kit set up in front of her, which she beat wildly as her blonde flew up and down.

She's not beholden to pop formula, but she can play that game, connecting with the fans on "Anything Can Happen," her Calvin Harris joint "I Need Your Love" and the flashy "Lights," which was a bit out of her (and virtually any human's) range live.
