Janet Jackson joins billion dollar club

Janet Jackson. (WENN)

Janet Jackson has joined the billion dollar club.
The All For You hitmaker has boasted a multi-million dollar fortune for years, but now she has joined her new husband, retail entrepreneur Wissam Al Mana, and the elite group of moneymakers whose bank balances top $1 billion, according to industry publication Variety.
The singer has raked in a total of $260 million in album sales thanks to the success of Control, Janet and Rhythm Nation 1814, and she has also taken in another $81 million from music and book publishing fees.
Jackson's multiple sold-out world tours have contributed another $458 million to her net worth, with an additional $81.5 million coming from tour sponsorships and licensing fees.
The 47 year old has also banked an impressive $304 million from her box office roles in 2000's The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, Poetic Justice and For Colored Girls.
The superstar's whopping personal fortune puts her in good company – Madonna, filmmakers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, and media mogul Oprah Winfrey have all made the ultra-exclusive list.

Hey, I thought all these years Janet was leeching and mooching her brother Michael...lolllll

but the proof is in the proverbial pudding

I never believed that for one second.....

everything Janet got, she earned it through her own effort

and from all the vile attacks directed her way the past 3 years, especially that fiasco last year

Janet is smelling like roses right about now and she has the last laugh

how bout them apples........ lol lol lol

she aint gotta release another album, tour, or work another day if she don't want to....

but just sit there and pull in the much deserved dough

its amazing how the Creator works.....I'm sure she's laughing behind closed doors to all the "haters".....

Supposedly, she gained control of her Virgin records masters this year, too, because of a clause in one of those landmark record deals she signed in the '90s. Add that on top of everything else and yeah, girlfriend is P-A-I-D.

all i hear is CACHING.........

see, this is a great moment...and I'm a say why......

the Jackson family has went thru pure unadulturated hell for 25 years, caught up in the web of the pop ascension movement that destoryed their family dynamic...

all the lies about the brothers leeching and smooching, those lies are about to come to a screeching halt.....

the brothers are touring as we speak w/no end in sight......excellent reviews, people shocked at their level of showmanship..but I'm not, because I saw the Triumph Tour in 1981 and saw all the brothers entertain at the highest level, people want to know how the hell they were so juked all these years...

see, the Creator is slowly but surely restoring this distinction back to the manner it should have been all along, the madness, and the apprehension, and the hi-jack was so strong, it was difficult to break through, but the truth is about to shine it's brightest light and it's long overdue.....

this lady unleashed the greatest recording by a female artist in the past 25 years, one of the greatest recordings ever with RHYTHM NATION 1814......rocking the fabric of culture.....a woman did that.......

and w/this achievement, Janet Jackson doesn't have to do another interview about her brother ever again......she is in CONTROL...she don't have to answers those whack questions anymore...

and that fiasco last year involving that young girl where the press, white press AND black press, white and black radio accused janet of hitting her and she never touched her...

MSNBC, CNN, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, E-HOLLYWOOD, TMZ, BET, cats like Roland Martin, cats who came on radio and vilified this woman, vilified the jackson family, taking them to task w/out realizing the hell this family has endured....and it aint about putting any family on a pedastal, for I always think that this could be anyone's family going thru crap.....even if the family was black, white, latino, whomever....all those talking heads, they all need to fired and kicked off the mic...

all of em showed they ass, trying to get access, trying to boot their careers and none are talking about anything

Janet responded to the attacks w/real class, she didn't back bite, she got her lawyer to check TMZ and they came correct after that....

it's wrong the way the world has attacked this family when they never did anything to anyone....

she comes out on top, and I know many dont know what to say or how to respond because they either wanted to believe or carried on the notion that she rode her brother's coattails and that was never the case.....you don't ride coattails and wind up becoming a billionaire...

and what's crazy, most of the world never saw it coming because they wanted to believe in all the lies.....

but the truth, the absolute truth wins out today and this is a beautiful thing....

Go Janet..........you win, they lose...

the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat..

her last 3 tours grossed a billion dollars and she has sold over 300 million units... That alone would make anyone a billionaire but she crossed that line last year
Madonna's a billionaire now, according to a new report in the New York Post.

Her net worth jumped after her MDNA Tour brought in a whopping $305,158,363, making it the highest-grossing tour of 2012. That's not counting the $75 million in merch sales, nor does it include the $10 million in TV and DVD rights that came with the 88-stop jaunt around the globe.

The news comes amid a strong few months for the singer. Madonna made a bold statement at this year's GLAAD Awards, where she arrived to present Anderson Cooper with an award in full cub scout regalia. The costume was a comment on the Boy Scouts of America's gay ban, and drew the ire of the likes of Rick Perry.

Despite plenty of controversy and negative press, the singer continues to prove her staying power. In addition to the tour, "MDNA" notched a No. 1 Billboard debut (although sales tumbled dramatically in the following weeks). Madonna's 2012 Super Bowl halftime performance also drew in more viewers than Beyonce's did this past February

I'm allowed to have opinions even if I'm a fan but I am proud of her. I'm okay with whether she comes back or not but wish she got more credit in general, I don't think she gets enough

Really feeling velvet rope right now. That album is the most timeless of hers though rhythm nation is the most consistent IMO

Seriously people, artists get SMALL fractions of the numbers you hear regarding tours, merchandising, album sales and even endorsements. They have COSTS, first of all. HUGE amounts of overhead. Second, they have promoters, managers, accountants, lawyers, assistants, designers, producers, technicians, bands/musicians and a hundred other people to pay. Lastly, TAXES! And if you don't believe that, ask Lauryn.

Same thing happened with Metallica and Warner Bros. this year. They took ownership of ALL their masters. Not sure what kind of clout or insight these people had that Prince couldn't muster up back in the day, but I'm happy for Janet and the Met-guys, regardless.

Out of all the peeps that should have ownership of their masters. Prince should be at the top of the list. It really saddens me.... sad

if your smart and a big enough player you get sponsors that cover costs of tours and have financial planners and lawyers that keep an eye for you. Janet and Madonna are both known for smart business, investment and financial planning. a lot of artist think the money will keep rolling in....

That neither of them are billionaires. Honestly, I doubt Janet is even close. The figures in that article are preposterously exaggerated, if not just pulled out of thin air. When people become billionaires, regardless of who they are or how they got there, it's a big deal, and it's STILL not an easy thing to do. I don't doubt that Janet is well off, but I don't believe she's close to being a billionaire.

And as far as gross concert tour revenues go, U2's last tour had a MASSIVE gross that netted very little (close to nothing by some estimates). There are SO MANY people to pay, so many logistical costs, as to be nearly unbelievable.

Yeah, the idea she got 300 million plus for those 3 movies is

Maybe the thread should be titled "If you add up all the money of everything she has ever been associated with comes to a billion" that may be true - still a pretty amazing achievement and no doubt she's not short of a dollar. It's a miracle her family haven't managed to pimp every penny out of her ass like they've done her brother.

I'm aware of that and on the Madonna billboard thread I pointed out the high cost of production and staging a Madonna deal but she has a great deal with live nation covering most of the costs

there is absolutely no way that is true. i think they added the totals those movies made together and said she made that amount.
