Who is the Prince of 84 in 2013?

As I am older now - I do wonder what makes teenagers really go "wow - this is different and cool". Is there anyone as massive as Prince was back in 84? Or have those days gone forever where musicians mattered so much to the 12-18 year olds?

Ja Rule and Ashanti is Chaka.

Or nah they are more the modern Rick James & Teena Marie

Then i would say Lil Wayne except Wayne has more hits and a better singing voice.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

You have not had ONE person in eons in music that can actually take over with THEIR MUSIC and work, peeps like Beyonce and others Alicia Keys, Justin etc....all have had to rely on gimmicks, HYPE, side stuff like clothing lines, perfumes, tons of films (i know Prince did a few, but only in one was he really playing a character) SO to answer the question, there is NO ONE, as i watched an interview Recently with Barry Gibb and he was saying at one point the Bee Gees not only had the number one film, album, song, they also had 5 of the Top 10 and he at one point was the writer of the top 3 songs not by himself, for other artists, come on people, that BAR is never gonna be touched because music has very little importance to most people, its not a lucrative business anymore so no one cares like that. Purple Rain made money, Saturday Night Fever made money, the new Justin Timberlake despite selling, is gonna break even with the label, Beyonce has to do tours and clothing lines for the money music makes her nothing

Tyler the Creator

Bruno Mars

Kendrick Lamar

Chaz Bundick aka Toro Y Moi

and to some extent Pharell Williams and Timbaland, but they´re both considered "too old" already.

Mind you, I don´t see any of those artists above even remotely close to Prince but you asked who is considered the "Prince of 84 in 2013", and seriously, those folks I mentioned above are labeled "genius" by most young people today.

S/A was quoting the title of at least 3 threads in the last 5-6 months. lol

We won't know which artist in 2013 will have a year like Prince In 84 until 2043.

Then, the ___________.Org topic will be, "Who is the _______ of 13 in 43?"

Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

There is nobody that can reach the heights that we saw with Madonna, MJ & Prince back in the days..
There's too much going on now.. Internet, Games, Computers, Phones... ect..

Music is just one little (add on) now..

It used to be the Only thing other than Movies and a a few Arcade games that kids had to entertain themselves with.. Those days are over! sad

Exactly, been saying this for years now, MUSIC is a sidedish, a "do you want fries with that meal" where it used to be the meal, now its an afterthought that most dont even care about

^^ Sad isn't it...?

I remember skipping school to be there when the store opened to get Sign o the times & Around the world in a day..

I remember standing online overnight to be one of the 1st people to get tickets for the Parade Tour..

I remember counting down the weeks then days until a new album would be released & not having a clue what any of it sounded like until i put it on..

I remember hearing Kiss on the radio for the 1st time while i was shopping with my mother in a clothing store and screaming MOM!!! MOM!!!! Thats Prince!!!!

All of this wouldn't be impossible today with youtube, blogs, ticketnaster..leaked albums..

confused We are living in another world these days.

it has more to do with the fact that there are a lot of information technologies. (if you like the song or video in the 80s, you were trying to catch it on the radio or TV, waiting continue the enthusiasm for an artist for many years without causing satiety ...Now you turn on the internet and listen / watch while you do not feel sick), in such conditions it is difficult to create a star that will be relevant for decades, in addition, the policy of the labels: they are not interested in promoting a mega-star, they are betting on several artists and get more devidendy, a monopoly in the past.
I love Prince and MJ and I think that they are extremely talented artists, Madonna is a workaholic and deserves respect, too, but their hugeness is related to external circumstances in the first place.

Same shit over n over, There will be no Next Prince or MJ, they all thought Prince is the nex Jimi Hendrix back in the day, he ain't now, he's PRINCE... Jack white or Bruno Mars or anybody who's very talented in this era stand on their own as artists.. nothing less.

Back then there were the big 3:

Prince

Michael Jackson

Madonna

They all pushed musicical boundaries and the new media at the time--the music video into new territory.

Is there anyone as magical and intrguing these days as they were during their prime? Nope.
