Chris Brown: New Album Has The Classic Essence Of R&B

[img:$uid]http://i1.cdnds.net/13/09/300x225/chris_brown.jpg[/img:$uid]

Chris Brown has revealed that his upcoming studio album pays homage to Michael Jackson.

The singer will release his sixth collection X later this year and has described the new material as the "classic essence of R&B".

"Making X, I found out who I am," Brown told Rolling Stone. "This album has a lot of substance, from the subject matter and the situations to how it deals with love.

"It's really derived from personal experiences. Then again, I always like mixing reality with art.

"I tried to stay away from the Euro beats, and not go totally pop. Instead, I wanted to take the Quincy Jones approach."

He added: "The record pays homage to the Stevie Wonders, the Michael Jacksons, the Sam Cookes: I wanted to put that classic essence of R&B and soul with the new age of music now.

"There's a lot of live instruments, and a lot less Auto-Tune. I really wanted to demonstrate my vocal ability, creating the vibe of me singing along with a band."

The star also admitted that he has recorded a new collaboration with girlfriend Rihanna, but has yet to decide whether it will make the final tracklist.

"I wrote a song for her called 'Put It Up' that we did together," Brown said. "It's still in the pot of songs we have to pick from.

"It may or may not make it, but you know, because she's already on it, it's a strong possibility."

Brown's new collection will be preceded by lead single 'Fine China', which will premiere on Monday (April 1).

Not buying it...not downloading it...and somebody tell him to stop putting his name in the same breath as Cooke, MJ, and Quincy..that's just disrespectful.

We'll see Breezy, we'll see.

They've been hyping that "Fine China" for a minute. I hope it's good for his sake. He ran the gamut with auto-tune.

How ironic Quincy Jones is still looked upon as a major influence......

but not surprising at the least

Where in the fluck are Maxwell, and D'Angelo again? Y'all need to come on out the shadows.

Breezy, & JT, but nothing from them.

"I tried to stay away from the Euro beats"

Tried? How hard can it be? Just don't put them on the record.

"This album has a lot of substance, from the subject matter and the situations to how it deals with love.", this quote sums up every sentiment of most r&b artists since the Neo-Soul movement, whenever they release a new record. Like everyone else, I'm waiting on D'angelo and Maxwell. I'm bumping Bilal's new CD "Love Surreal" and unlike some other artists, he doens't need hype to make good music: it's just good.

Exactly lol Why do artists always spew this type of hyperbole? Make a great album and let the music speak for itself!

They're gunning for the nostalgia crowd. There's only lil' problem though, they LIE lol none of the shit they make remotely sounds like R&B.
