En Vogue: Star Spangled Banner - what do you guys think?

I played this for my mother recently and she said they sounded terrible. lol. I mean she was really offended. She said that it's not how the 'Star Spangled Banner' is supposed to be sung. Personally, I love it, but I was wondering what you guys thought of it.

P.S: Do you think some people may not like this because of a generational thing?

I like it shrug I mean, we have here 4 women who are all great singers and they took a bit of vocal liberty with this song and changed it up. I don't mind if people change it up, as long as it sounds good.

OP, I do think it's a generational thing. Here are 2 quotes I've heard lol My father HATES when people sing this song differently and always says "why can't they just sing it straight the way it's supposed to be?" and my grandmother used to say someone was "doing too much" lol

Technically, there is no special way to perform it, since it was a poem that was later set to the music of another song. smile

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I remember this. Also remeber when they did this at a baseball game (I think playoffs or world series.... cant remember but it was in 1996 or 1997) when Max has the really short finger wave hair. lol.

But to answer the question, I don't see anything wrong with it. Its not Whitney at 1991 Superbowl or anything, but I like the twist they did on this one.
