Taylor Swift .... What is the secret of success?

I rarely create threads about artists that I do not like ... but this time decided to do it.
Taylor's latest album has sold the largest number of copies in the U.S. in its first week in the past 10 years. Each of her album in the U.S. is a great success.
What is her secret?: her voice is weak, the song is faceless, I saw some of her live performances ... the girl can not sing and has no charisma at all .....
Thoughts?

the people buying her records don't agree with you

she is talented, she is good looking and writes catchy songs, her first 2 albums were really great. she has that country and pop cross over and country can sell large quantities for those types of artists. not everyone likes rnb and hip hop

this is what surprises me. lol
I don`t dispute that Taylor is popular .... I was surprised by the reasons for this popularity.
She wrote many of the songs on their own, it is a huge "+", but her live performances just bloody awful. Taylor is very weak singer.

I don`t like hip-hop and I'm not the biggest fan rnb too. wink

Swift talk-sings (or whatever that is), plays some easy chords on guitar, and only concocts basic songs about her pathetic (and strategically sensationalized) boyfriend issues. You can her "talented." I call her "absurdly lucky."

That incident did anger her fans. However, she'd recorded two consecutive multi-platinum albums before Kanye's infamous meltdown at the VMAs. Therefore, I can't see how you can speculate as to whether Kanye caused an uptick in her sales.

Most of the people who listen to her are the southern god loving kind who monitor everything their child does. Taylor's music and image is quite tame and is acceptable to these kids.

i like her and i'm a northern motherfucking satanist who hates kids. i'd bang taylor in a 3som with rihanna and show them who's the daddy, then she can write a whiney song about me called "big dick daddy-o rode me good (feat. rihanna)"

I think the secret to her success is that she's a hard worker and has been dedicated to making music since she was like 11 years old. I watched her E! True Hollywood story a few years back because I wanted to see what the big deal was about her too. I'm not a fan but I was damn impressed at the lengths of determination and drive that this girl went through...on her own....to become an artist. She walked into several record labels in Nashville and handed out her demo tape. Nobody wanted to sign her as an artist but they liked her songs so they paid her to write songs for other Country artists for years before she basically 'pulled a Kanye' meaning that she went from being mostly behind the scenes to saying 'Screw this, I'm keeping my songs and doing this myself'. She appeals to young and old music listeners whether they are big Country fans or like Pop music and she looks like she's 12 years old. She writes her own music; plays an instrument; and, despite having a relatively clean-cut image, the girl has no problem telling her exes to go F**k themselves to a beat. Something about kissoff songs often appeal to many people....ooh scandal. lol I may not like her as an artist but I definitely respect her as a person for busting her ass to get to where she is today.

Yes Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood are way more talented than this chick. The biggest It factor about Taylor Swift is that she's relatable in many ways to a lot of teenage girls. She's not gorgeous or glamourous like Beyonce or Katy Perry. She's just an average looking, conservatively dressed skinny girl with small boobs and she's sending out that message "it's ok to look this way" Her songwriting and guitar playing are very elementary and as a singer she's far below average. Basically, there's nothing intimidating about her look, personality or talent and I think kids &parents find that appealing. I can at least respect her for being who she is, keeping it down to earth and trying to write her own material I guess.

I really don't like ppl calling her a country singer when 99% of her material is pure disney pop though. It's the same thing as Grammys and BET calling all black artist doing pop "RnB artists", and I often wonder if true country fans find it laughable how she keeps getting all the support and recognition from CMT.

Im really glad you said this because Ive never thought she was pretty...not hideous either just average looking.

Carrie Underwood is way more talented and prettier (not that looks matter but just saying) than this girl

Why is her success so surprising?

If Justin Bieber, who has no talent and average looking kid can sale alot of records why is it that surprising Taylor can? If Rihanna who has no talent whatsoever can have alot of hits, why cant Talor Swift can? If Beyonce who makes shitty music can win 16 grammys, why cant Taylor Swift can? If Katy Perry can do nothing but change her hair color had have alot of top singles why cant Taylor Swift can? If all it takes for Lady Gaga to be called original is to just dress like Madonna why cant Taylor Swift be taken artisitcally seriously?

Taylor isnt a country singer, shes is a pop singer but Beyonce/ Rihanna are pop singers that get catergorize as R&B so its the same crap on all spectrums and in all genres.

Bad music has been winning grammys and saling records over the past decade now so why is it sooo surprising than Taylor Swift can?

And I dont care what anybody says that Kanye West incident did give her ALOT more notoriety because I didnt have a clue who she was before that incident.

Yes, modern pop music mostly sucks .... thanks for reminding me. lol

Justin, Gaga, Rihanna, Katy....each of them has some really catchy songs and none of them has such a series of very successful albums in the United States. Her 4 albums sold in the U.S. a lot of copies, it's hard to remember many artists who would have sold 4 albums in a row in such a large circulation. Usually it is up and down.

To be unbiased and fair, some others made some points here that I agree with. razz

Her image is mostly trying to relate to regular girls/young women she makes music that is relatable in that respect ( I GUESS lol ) and her image is just ordinary and not to outlandish, overlysexual.

I think music is now turning more into, if the public likes the person then they will go out of their way to support them regardless if they have talent or if their music is good or bad.

So its really not about artists or artistry anymore, its about whether they like them as real people which really doesnt take a whole lot of talent and is mostly centered around image

The public will never honestly know how these celebrities personally are behind closed doors but if the celebrity can do a good job convincing the public they are one way then their sold.

Music aside, I personally find her image to be contrived although its not overly sexualized and just because its clean doesnt mean it isnt.

Like she made that song about John Mayor and even called it John eek ... straight put his ass on blast... that was kinda messed up and disrespectful. Yea it didnt work out but why would you put his business out there like that? I HIGHLY doubt she would have liked that if it was the other way around. Seems pretty tacky and not classy like her image likes to portray. Im all for putting your feelings in music but she could have at least been more tasteful with it.

Shes not this sweet innocent girl the media and she likes to portray, that was straight up bitchy.

Yes! I think she's probably a big ole bitch on the real tip. I think it's shitty to keep writing about guys you've dated to sell records and I think she secretly LOVED when Kanye did that thing to her as she milked it to death.

1. Taylor has the cute face and the height of a runway model.

2. Taylor can play the guitar.

3. Taylor can write and/or co-write a song that the females in her fan base can relate to.

4. With a couple more years of life experience, Taylor has the potential of being the Dolly Parton of her generation.

Really???? She disrespected a man who talked about all the women he's been involved with and even said how good and freaky Jessica Simposon was in bed? Sorry but I think the award for messed up and disrespect goes to John.

While Taylor Swift has pop crossover appeal she is still considered a country artist. Country fans are loyal to a fault and they love to buy physical CD's. She's also seen as a good role model and her music isn't racy or too out there for parents. She keeps it tasteful and don't go for the shock values other artists her age strive for. No meat dresses a la Gaga or vanishing wardrobe a la Rihanna.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I didnt know he said that but does that justify her doing that?

She tries to put on a sweet innocent image and someone who is really like that would not do that regardless if the person she was with does that. If I am not mistaken I dont think Mayor talked badly about Swift until that song was made.

Regardless whether Mayor does it or did it.. its distasteful with ANYBODY does it and Taylor shouldnt be exempt from it.

Country is consistently the top-selling genre.

I'm not surprised at her success at all. Country fans actually support their artists.

Anybody watch X-Factor? Who got the top number of votes last week? A country singer.

doesn't matter what John Mayer did, she did make the song to get back at him, which is just very bitchy.

Secondly the lyrics are exactely why I said "she plays the inccocent card very well". It was something like "i'm was so young and you shouldn't have hurt me"...pleeease, like she didn't know what she got herself into when she started to date John Mayer, give me a break!
