TVOne's Unsung coming back in January!

TV One's "Unsung" to return in January with the Whispers, Isaac Hayes and 10 more episodes

Great news for SoulTrackers and other lovers of the greatest show on television, TV One's "Unsung." It was announced today that the music biography show has been renewed for a sixth season that will begin in January.

This time around, artists who will be Unsung'ed will include Eddie Kendricks, The Whispers, EPMD, Lou Rawls, Midnight Star and Isaac Hayes and six others to be named. As always the shows will be narrated by actor Gary Anthony Williams.

As TV One explains it, "Unsung focuses on profiling gifted musical talents who have played an important role in recent music history, but have not necessarily become household names. The featured artists have contributed significantly to popular culture and have compelling life stories, the details of which have largely remained untold."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves. And we can't wait for January!

Hmm very good variety.

I'm more interested in seeing Eddie Kendricks (I just love ole Cornbread mushy), EPMD and Isaac Hayes, even though I don't feel that Black Moses was actually Unsung but I don't feel like going on the merry-go-round conversation about the true Unsung artists and the ones that aren't topic. thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

They better do Slave. I also want eps on 5 star, Lisa Stansfield, Ready for the The World, Kurtis Blow, Force Mds and Gil Scott Heron. War would be nice as well and the Average White Band.

Shit, if they're doing Midnight Star, why not Starpoint? Not that I advocate that.

How about Syreeta, Sylvia Robinson, Betty Wright and Fifth Dimension and Terence Trent D'aryb?

Watching Eddie's episode is definitely my top priority...big fan! Can't tell you how much his solo stuff was in my family's LP collection. Loved it then, love it now. I know his life story is gonna be filled with tragedy. Chain smoking, drug addiction, death, and unfair treatment from the music industry. This will be one to watch. music

I will definitely be most interested in the Eddie Kendricks and Isaac Hayes

episodes. Eddie K's solo career was just pedestrian after a stellar run

with the Temps. Isaac's was a gifted songwriter and producer but he

was always stuck with the guy who did Shaft stigma and really didn't get

his due afterwards.

Pedestrian in what way? I found it sad that people slept on his stuff after his amazing run with The Tempts. That was due to Motown's failure to keep him afloat with the other cats who were knocking shit out of the ballpark with their solo careers (Stevie, Marvin, Diana, Smokey, etc.) But I've always found his solo years at Motown to be just as worthy as his years with The Tempts.

That's not to say none of his stuff was good. Some of his stuff was good but he never

reached the level of success solo as he did with the Temps which is exactly why he's having

an episode. Same for his former fellow fallen temp David Ruffin.

I doubt it because your list of artist/musicians are the folks this show should be profiling. Seriously, if you asked the producers of Unsung about the artist you mentioned I wouldn't surprised if they only knew Ms. White.

True. I find that David and Eddie had parallel solo careers, as they never really attained the level of success as they did when they were with The Tempts. Eddie's career fare alittle better though, but when he left Motown, it never got back together. Eddie and Berry were never really friends. lol

One of Joe Tex's buddies was all like "you can forget it" about Joe being profiled for Unsung due to TV-One's politricks.

I think it was pretty obvious why little effort was put into David's career by Motown after his fallout (and firing) with the Tempts but with Eddie, I don't really understand why his career never really reached equal, if not higher, success than his career with the Tempts. He really did put out some funky soulful stuff in his solo days. nod

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I agree his stuff was good and and as soulful as his songs with the Temps were. David Ruffin I think surrounded himself with bad managers. He also was also a drug addict and majority of the time artists popularity decline is due to drug use. David had the talent to become a big star even though people know who he is his contributions and importance to the Temps is overlooked. The Temps became succesful without David but their immortalized hits was 95% of the time by David Ruffin.
