This is the show on OWN, right ? I like that show. Did you see the one regarding Johnny Taylor ? Might need to set this up on the dvr again, if they're doing new episodes.

I ended up watching that today while I was looking for how to find the series online. Man, that was like , waaay too many damned kids all over the place eek and even more of a trip with how it ended up with everybody's greedy behind ending up with $2,000 checks after it was all said and done .

Although, let me ask everybody this:

Even though all those secret kids turned out to be his, do you think it was "ethically" right for them to challenge a will by a dad who clearly never wanted anything to do with them?

Outside of JT Hooker, the others really seemed to go after this just for the money....although technically and legally they had rights to the Taylor estate, there was something that didn't feel right to me about the "money grab" aspect of it. I found myself being irritated that they hadn't reached out to him in life if they wanted to be claimed by him so badly, and that they were motivated primarily by greed rarther than the sob story of not having a dad around. Heck, one of the girls even admitted she was angry because his daughter within marriage grew up with parties and nice things while she didn't...that bugged me to no end for some reason. hammer

^ It's like James Brown, if you're not included in the will, you don't stand to gain a lot from the lawsuit. I doubt the JT illegitmates received anything over the ones he claimed.

Well at the end of the documentary, they said the lawsuits whittled his $1.3 Million estate down to his wife paying off legal fees, creditors, receiving her half of what what left according to the will, and then each kid getting their $2,000 share a piece. Seems like in their eagerness to get their share of what they likely thought could be up to $100,000 each ( I remember the mother of the ring leader saying it was her chance to get what her daughter deserved in his death that she couldn't get during Taylor's life), and by the time they got done challenging this and that, trying to have bodies exhumed, going back & forth to get what they "deserved" from the estate, they ended up with the equivalent of a few month's rent. Messed up, but that's what ill intentions and a greedy heart with get you. Half of the documentary, for the one daughter (the illegitimate ringleader), you never heard her speak about love or wanting to contribute to preserving her father's musical legacy, everything was about the money she deserved. It irked me lol

Chile, I haven't seen this since it aired, a while ago, so I'll have to watch it again myself...but yeah the one thing that did stick out to me was all them damn kids. I do remember being irritated in the same way that you have described where all of a sudden, these children who didn't even care to reach out to their famous father while he was alive, was now coming out of the woodwork like wolves hunting for prey. The thing I DO remember the most that irritated me was how JT impregnated a 14 year old girl when he was like either in his mid to late-20's or something? eek WTF?

Anywho, I know it's crying over spilled milk, but all the mudslinging and carrying on wouldn't even had been if papa wouldn't had been a rolling stone and kept his dick in his pants...but it is what it is. That's what I think is so sad about situations like this, the living are bickering and arguing and fighting and ordering paternity tests and some more, all the while, the man is dead and gone and worried about nothing. confused

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Okay, so I just watched the Etta James episode, and I have to say this one wasn't as cut and dry as the other episodes I've seen. The main arguement was whether or not Etta James was in her right mind when she allegedly filed for divorce from her husband of nearly 40 years and named her oldest son as power of attorney. This was also around the time whe the media made an uproar about Etta when she so called "threatened" to beat up Beyonce for singing "At Last" at President Obama's inauguration ball. Come to find out she was suffering from demetia in it's early stages.

In the end, stepfather (Etta's husband) and the oldest son basically had to share the responsiblities of her estate. What was also interesting is that the court battle went on while Etta was ailing with the effects of Leukemia, Hepititis, Dementia, kidney failure, etc....before she died. The case was settled only about 2 months before she died, just long enough for the family to come together AS A REAL FAMILY during her passing.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Maybe them settling finally put Etta's mind at ease because sometimes when people are dying and family acts nuts, they usually don't help that person's situation. Maybe Etta was finally at peace knowing her husband and her sons could finally come together before they had to say goodbye.

Honestly, given her condition, I don't think she had any idea of what was going on. The actress who played her bedridden irked the hell out of me though. lol

I'm glad that the family was able to resolve their differences before she passed, though a lot of time was wasted with the back and forth to court between the stepfather and the oldest son.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Just pull a big curvy butterscotch sista from a church choir somewhere! My husband walked in the door from a church meeting, saw that woman on the screen and asked me confusedly, "Honey, is this that a show about Michael Jackson's mother confuse ?" neutral
