thank you.

Very true, I try to tell this to people (I'm a music student, but there's so much negativity towards Mikes work because he was so commerically succesful). But I guess people forget he did create music before Q or don't want to realize he did.

Love these songs (what 18-year old guy writes a song like Blues Away today???) and The Jacksons are so underrated.

Mike's purchase of The Beatles' catalogue was the final nail in the coffin, he was never forgiven by the white rock press in the US for that.

The fact that Paul and/or Yoko had the option of buying the catalogue didn't seem to factor into it. Also the fact that Paul owns other people's work tends to be conveniently forgotten.

and the fact Yoko Ono was okay with the rights being bought....it was when mj wanted to use the music for commercials Paul started having problems with him, years after the purchase, and it was mostly cause of not wanting the beatles music to become overexposed

Also, people forget mj purchased other people's song rights and returned little richard's to him

and yet, at least here in the u.s., i hear the beatles music being used in ad campaigns. not many, but they do it.

someone brought that up on a thread not too long ago, wanting everyone to jump on his "let's lynch mj b/c he owns paul's records" bandwagon, and i posted a clip from you tube of a recent ad which featured buddy holly's music.

one guess as to who owns holly's publishing rights?

lots of people allow their music to be used in ad campaigns and i don't think any less of them or the music. one of the most beautiful instrumentals of the last 80 years was (still is?) used by american airlines as their theme music. is 'rhapsody in blue' diminished in any way? no, it's not. do i think any less of buddy holly's music? no. but i think less of paul.

i can't stand the hypocrisy b/c i know it really has nothing to do with "overexposing" the beatles. it has only to do with mj owning the rights, PERIOD.

MJ got the Beatles catalog fair and square. Paul should have placed a higher bid.

I have a music industry book too, and there is a brief mention about obtaining the catalogue, but it's the mythical version of the story, going right down to mocking mj telling paul he's going to buy his rights and paul laughing....

I'm very pro-Dangerous. I remember buying it on release day and being extremely impressed by it's beats in a way that 'Bad' never really did on first listen. 'Jam' just hit me as did all the uptempo numbers. I know 'New Jack' was on it's way out by then but it still sounded authentically urban, Mike, Teddy an co were on it. Unlike say Prince & Tony M on Diamonds & Pearls the same year.

I'm glad "bad 25" is doing pretty shitty in the UK charts (no.6 and only 11,000 copies shows how unimportant album charts are in the UK these days ).

Waste of money. I'll buy it when it is cheap enough, just as I did with the LAST DAMN REISSUE OF THE ALBUM, but I hope Sony learn that an album that already sold about 40 million or whatever it is ain't gonna sell much more. Sony keep rehashing shit. I just wish another record company won the rights to his unreleased stuff. As all we are getting is drip fed new shit.

Kudo's on the documentary though.

Its not really suppose to be a "new release" Its like a collectors edition box set and they typically dont sell a whole lot being its mostly catered to the hard core fanbase.

Maybe. But why the shitty new remixes then? I couldn't believe MJ actually wasted time on a few of those on "thriller 25". Kids love MJ, but they love the real authentic stuff, not the new remixes which are so desperate to be "cool".

I just wish we dont get a "Dangerous 25" etc..., just release the damn unreleased demos and songs. And while they are at it, do a proper treatment of "moonwalker" (extras, commentary) and no cuts this time mad

Only die hards care about the unreleased stuff, yet they expect fans to pony up money for an album (in this case "bad") that every hardcore and even most casual fans already have just to get a few new songs? Ridiculous and daylight robbery!

Sony could do an "Anthologyesque" documentary on MJ's music too. At least the Spike Lee doc is a step in the right direction.

I agree! I dont even know why they bothered to put remixes on BAD25 I didnt even bother to listen to them and it really does no justice to the classics.

I think they should just start catering to the real fans all together and stop with trying to keep him relevant with the times or reach casual listeners with all the extra bullshit remixes.

I really enjoyed the unreleased material, truly a treat and the DVD.

Preach!! i think that the estate did a good job with bad 25, and am in no way bashing the project.. but come one, your average michael jackson dont care about new unreleased songs.. i wish the estate would cater more to the hardcore fans.. i wish they would make a box set of the 200+ unreleased songs and demos.. something like "The Complete Elvis Masters" set that came out a while back.. or maybe even a 20 song album each year.. i wish they would release more of the 80 hours of this is it footage they have.. id love to see it all.. id like some good concert dvds.. Triumph,Destiny,Victory,Bad,Dangerous,HIStory along with rehearsal footage from the tour.. Dvds of the Album recording sessions... i dont understand how the estate doesnt see that they are marketing to us the hardcores.. not the casual Billie Jean listener.. we arent interested in Pitt Bull remixes.. and i dont want to wait 30 years to get all this stuff released.. i cant wait to see the spike lee documentary, i wish they would do one for each album.. there is so much the estate could do.

You've got to be realistic. I think after the disaster of the Michael album, Bad 25 was a really positive step in the right direction. In spite of the shitty remixes, they pretty much gave the fans what they wanted. They didn't mess with or re-work any of the demos/unreleased tracks, they made sure that the bonus tracks were of the correct era (something Michael himself didn't even do, trying to pass off For All Time as a Thriller outtake), they gave us a live album and the DVD we were all waiting for.

Next project will be another album of unreleased music, probably in late 2013. As long as they don't fuck that up with Cascio garbage, then they might just redeem themselves.

The box set has finally arrived. The dvd is amazing. Mike's vocals are breathtaking. I'll never understand how he could sing like that and dance at the same time.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

totally get you. At this stage in the game it is or should be about the hardcore fans. SONY should be treating us like adults and compiling all the unreleased stuff in either one big box set or maybe releasing a ten-track album every couple of years. BAD25 annoys me. 6 songs only. Thankfully they're great.

Let's have 'Men In Black', 'A Place With No Name' etc.

Total bullshit, apart from the demos & live CD/DVD.

Fucking stickers. How silly.

My issue with the Estate is that by the time everything that's in the vaults gets released, the generation that grew up with Michael Jackson won't be alive to hear it all. It's really ashame. And I don't want to hear the excuse about how the Estate is milking the unreleased material as long as they can. Come on. It's not like these packages are selling at huge numbers. MJ is not here anymore. Sales will never be like they were when he was alive. Just release all the damn material that was left.
