Stevie Wonder Clarifies Comments on Frank Ocean's Sexuality

This must be the holiday weekend for further explanations, because, like Seal before him, Stevie Wonder is also taking a moment to clarify remarks he's made in the press, with his being about hot topic Frank Ocean.

Ocean's musical style has drawn comparisons to Wonder's work, and thus the young artist - whose admission that he previously fell in love with a man was met with intense media coverage - was one of the topics in Wonder's recent conversation with U.K. paper The Guardian.

Wonder was asked whether he was "surprised that there could ... be a [furor]" over Ocean's plaintive discussion about his sexuality, particularly in this day and age, to which Wonder replied-

"I think honestly, some people who think they're gay, they're confused," Wonder said. "People can misconstrue closeness for love. People can feel connected, they bond. I'm not saying all [gay people are confused]. Some people have a desire to be with the same sex. But that's them."

Since that interview posted Thursday, Wonder's taken the time to clear up any misunderstandings about what he was trying to say.

"I'm sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood. No one has been a Since that interview posted Thursday, Wonder's taken the time to clear up any misunderstandings about what he was trying to say.

"I'm sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood. No one has been a greater advocate for the power of love in this world than I; both in my life and in my music," the legendary musician told CNN in a statement. "Clearly, love is love, between a man and a woman, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man. What I'm not confused about is the world needing much more love, no hate, no prejudice, no bigotry and more unity, peace and understanding. Period"

I was surprised that Stevie even went there. He's been in the game too long to step into such an obvious no win trap. confused

Since when was it a sin to compare and contrast artists? Its not like someone made a value judgement that Frank Ocean was a better singer/songwriter or performer than Stevie Wonder. Let artists LIVE and CREATE their art without being lambasted at every turn. Who knows, Frank Ocean may grow to be one of the greats. Let him live, let him create!

Further proof journalism is dead. "a Since", why would someone write that on a news website?

Yeah, I agree, although it never accrued to me to compare Stevie and Frank, I do think Frank is one of the better artists out there these days. He might not be Prince, but he does have a cool style and sound. And really, who knows he might indeed grow to be one of the greatest. Lyrically to me he is just amazing. Plus someone mentioned here that he uses sex to sell music lol that is the most hypocritical statement on a Prince fan page. I also think Prince is a hypocrite when he criticize "todays' music industry for using sex to sell... Who did it better than anyone? Prince LOL.... Sex is the most raw human quality, and it sells, it speaks to everyone.
