Why does Paul Stanley from Kiss acts like he is not a good guitar player

Paul Stanley is the rhythm guitar player but less known fact is that Paul Stanley played many guitar solos on classic Kiss records. Is that You,Shandy,World Without Heroes are just few of examplas.his solos are tasty and memorable and i dig him more then Ace ,Ace is all flash but i don't dig his basic pentatonic soloing.Back to Paul ,on live concerts whenever he have a solo spot he just plays 2 basic chord changes.the only time i've seen Paul shine is a live version of A World Without Heroes and during Lick it Up Anymalize live version from Detroit.Paul aprouch Bruce Kulic and on Bruces guitar Paul plays interesting whammy bar licks

Paul IS a good guitar player, he's just known more for playing rhythm than solos. I saw a clip from the "Animalyze" tour back in the 80s where he does this hammer-on style solo and goes into a rhythm part. He played the solo on "Sure Know Something", too.

I think Paul's role in the band (at least on live shows) is to be the "front man", not just singing lead most of the time, but to talk to and interact with the audience, in addition to playing the guitar.

Paul is a decent rhythm guitarist but I've always put him in the singer/songwriter category first. He definetly has the Stones/T-Rex influence thing where he plays diff. chords (than the other guitarist) to make the song sound fuller.

I also thought he always looked cool with his Iceman and Flying V too.

I liked the broken-glass Iceman guitar he played when "Dynasty" was out.

Paul has a new line of guitars (including electric and acoustic Flying V's) from Washburn:

His 2 solo albums he had some decent chops on those.

He is a silly songwriter, but i admire his voice & guitar playing. And he may seem like 2nd banana at times to Ace & Bruce & John & Vinnie or whoever was playing at the time.

But he has held his own, he just doesn't like ot be the main solo & rift guy it seem's.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
