I love what Leon Ware said about why this song shouldn't have been banned from airplay.

Was there ever a controversy made over the phallus like imagery of that particular album cover, I'm sure some dirty minds went there? I never knew there was an uproar over the song, IMO it's more sensuous and coy than outright dirty. It's a DAMN good song overall , one I'd put on repeat for sure.

One of the first tunes that made me fall in love with the Rhodes piano, thanks to Joe Sample's masterly break of gorgeous progressions 3 minutes into the song.

is only one defense: the creative act.

Good stuff. I like her solo albums as well as the stuff she did with Rotary Connection. In some ways i think both are under appreciated. Rotary Connection more so than Minnie though.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

This is my favorite Minnie song, next to "Memory Lane". She once said when she was recording it, she didn't even realize the song had such strong sexual connotations until someone pointed it out to her.biggrin

Leon gave an interesting lecture at the Red Bull Music Academy back in 2005. This is what he had to say about Inside My Love:

Would love to see the whole lecture.

SoulAlive, the quote I'm refering to can be found in the Petals liner notes. One thing that stuck in my mind was him saying that the pastors in the chruch would sometimes begin the sermon with "come inside the lord" and that the song was mainly spiritual, contrary to the "sexual" belief.

Although, I still call bullshit lol because the two themes could be at crossroads many times, just ask Marvin Gaye.
