Lily Allen Changes Her Name, Starts Work on Third Album

Lily Allen‘s in-the-works third album will not be released under the name Lily Allen -- instead, the U.K. pop singer has officially changed her professional name to Lily Rose Cooper.
The announcement comes one year after the 27-year-old singer married Sam Cooper in a Gloucestershire, England. In November, Cooper gave birth to a baby girl, Ethel.
Meanwhile, the singer’s follow-up to 2009’s It’s Not Me, It’s You is officially in motion: A press release confirms that Cooper is recording new music written “over the past few months.” In June, Cooper tweeted, “You will be pleased to know that I am currently in the f---ing studio with @GregKurstin,” a producer who was integral to her work on It’s Not Me, It’s You.
“It’s great to work at my own pace, with no commitments other than to make music,” Cooper said in a statement Thursday. “I’m excited to be heading back into the studio.”
It’s Not Me, It’s You followed the singer’s breakout 2006 debut Alright, Still, which featured the singles “LDN” and “Smile.” “5 O’Clock,” a T-Pain single featuring Cooper and Wiz Khalifa, cracked the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 late last year.

According to the article, Lily just took her husband's last name.. I think that's different than Prince, Snoop Dogg and Diddy.. and it's not unusual for a married woman.

Exactly. Just because she wants to go by her married name--which women choose to do all the time--doesn't mean she's chasing some trend. | |

If she did it before everyone else started doing it, then I might be inclined to believe that. Also, if she only did it in her personal life, and not with her stage name, then no attention would be drawn to it. People in the industry follow each other all the time. | |

Her stage name is also her real name. If she wants to change her real name after getting married, it makes sense that her stage name should change as well to make her life simpler. I don't see why she is being criticized for that. | |
