Time for a Joyce thread

Everyone remembers Joyce, I found it again, can not stop laughing!!!!

I've seen photoshops of her, has anyone got any more or anything to say about her. I heard the album on a certain site. The music sounds a lot like country and western and she has a shrill voice. Her biggest hit was "I get all excited (About Jesus)". Even though the album is 83, the outfit looks more 1978 - 79.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I thought this was about Joyce, the Brazilian singer

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Sorry it may be dated now, but around 2004/06 were searching around the net for bad album covers and they found these. Mostly by ultra Protestant (Baptist, Pentecostal) or born again Christians these albums were known for their cheap country and western or watered down gospel sound and the fact the people on the covers looked ridiculously unfashionable even by the standards of the day. Mostly as this was because many were simple folk not used to fashion and they dressed up in such clothes to make the records appeal to a wider audience.

Joyce stood out as she wears a bizarrely unfashionable red and grey striped dress with a red background and the fact she has a huge perm and large lensed glasses, the outfit is so sexless it has led people to believe Joyce maybe a satire of someone else, a transexual or Tootsie. But again sometime around 2006/07 she was found to be Joyce Drake a preachers wife from Texas.

Ken too is part of the 70s fad of facial close up shots, and as laughed at as he looks so trashy its not true and he had the worst possible haircut and side burns acceptable for the 70s, he looks like a hillbilly poured into a 70s outfit. On person called godlesspanther on you tube actually had a video about wether Ken was again a satire (As it was so bad, it had to be a fake), but it turned he was a preacher from South Carolina and had made the album in 1976, he was aware of a 2007 ebay auction where a copy of "Ken" had sold for $135 on the auction and he found about 40 copies of the album, signed them and sold them on ebay too.

Thee are many sites (LPcoverlover, Bizarre records) that are dedicated to showcasing bad album covers, many will be from the 1950s - 1980s period and will feature Latino albums, Eurotrash albums, Dirty(Adult) albums and albums showing ugly people or ones with only 3 teeth etc. But a high percentage of them are Christain themed albums mostly from the Southern and Western United States and nearly all of them feature White people with nad or ill fitting outfits, ridiculous hairstyles, perms, big glasses, overweight, dwarfs or mutants. The albums are nearly always only designed for a small market (Perhaps family members, church goers etc) and hence as most are 30 or 50 years ago, have become very elusive, so discovering them now, usually brings a fit of giggles. All of these sites have agreed that Ken and Joyce have become the poster boy and gir for all of the. Joyce in particular has been subjected to photoshop jokes, nonsensical satire articles and several videos on youtube that have photoshopped album covers and even lyrics onto more offensive songs and artists like Britney spears.

In short its an internet meme.

PS: Some albums too featured families which usually had 5 or 6 identical looking kids on the cover in the same outfit (Usually creepy) and Mum would have a huge beehive or sculpted hairdo, and dad was always sideburned, overweight and missing a few teeth. Others also had a person with one or several badly and cheaply designed puppets like Marcy a talking Christian doll who looked a lot like Chucky. Others went with bizarre themes such as Captain Kidd and his Christian pirates, The Captain must have weighed at least 300 pounds and his little kiddies were dressed up in cheap and very bad looking pirate garb, to complement the set up were several creepy muppets in similiar gab, I have not idea what the purpose was, I suspect rum and booty were replaced by water and a treasure chest of bibles. Another cover shows 2 bizarre mammoth creature puppets playing drums and a bass next to the Christian singer.

As you can see the back clearly shows you that she is not a young woman, and the cheapness of the album in the fact its black and white on the back. Joyce proves smiles are free at least
