Behind the Music: Nas

Anyone catch this last night? I actually came upon it accidentally. I was channel surfing as nothing else was on TV and caught it. Didn't really learn a whole lot about Nas that I already didn't know, besides his mother passing from cancer and how much he was in love with Kelis. Still not sure why they all of a sudden "fell out of love" though somebody said that Kelis was spending Nas' money as he earned it. Hmm. He also learned that she was in labor with his son by way of TMZ? eek My goodness. I know that there's two sides to every story, but from his end, it seems like she really did him in. The best part of the whole episode was seeing Chris Webber drool I've always loved that man.

I missed about the first 20 minutes of his story but I enjoyed watching it. I really respect Nas and I no longer consider myself a hiphop fan but you gotta give it to Nas. He is really talented and wise. I like that he seems really low key and private and you don't hear too much about him in the press. I also respect that all he does is rap. He doesn't try to act or have a stupid clothing line. I might actually check out his new album. I'm sureit will be better than most hip hop bullshit out there being played on the radio. He usually has something to say in his lyrics.

Well, he has tried his hand in acting, though I don't think he's done any recently, but I could be wrong. Personally, I prefer him rapping than acting because Belly was horrendous.

To me he's always been more of a lyricist rather than a rapper. He's definitely gifted with what he does from the heart. I like that he's low key too, which you could tell it bothered him when his divorce got ugly and all out in the open. It's sad that he and Kelis didn't make it because he really did seem like he was happy when they were together.

From what I hear, his anticipated new album is supposed to be really good.

One thing I was pleased to see during the show that I didn't mention before were the scenes they showed him performing live. I never knew he was that good live.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I watched this last night! pretty good stuff. Nas has always made good records minus that brief late 90's bling bling period.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I agree.

"You Owe Me" isn't exactly a Nasir Jones highlight.

Exactly! I feel like I have a new found respect for him. He seems really cool! His new album might be the first Hip Hop cd i've gotten in God knows when, with the exception of Kanye West!

It can be both, fool:

That is, jamming and hella ig'nant, the former being something Nas genuinely

isn't.
