It certainly has something to do with Music rights... There should be one tho, but I've heard the Hendrix family got some issues too... I know that his swedish son, didnt get a lot of money and frankly doesnt give a shit bout his dad, more happy bout living with his boyfriend in the suburbs of Stockholm.

There was a pretty bad film made about Hendrix years ago.

Plot Summary for
Hendrix (2000) (TV) More at IMDbPro ยป

Biography of rock star Jimi Hendrix chronicles his early career, including a stint with Little Richard who fired him for getting too flamboyant, to his tragic failure. Struggling to find a niche, he moves to England where he becomes friends with musician and producer Chas Chandler (Christian Portenza). Chas then teams him with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding (Krit Holdenreid, Christopher Ralph) to form the Experience. As Hendrix gets public attention, Chas then introduces him to a major record producer (Billy Zane) who takes over his career. While this gets Hendrix international exposure, it also places him in the hands of people interested only in the money aspects that his career offers them. One of the early disasters foisted on him by the record company is an opening bill for "The Monkees" on an American tour. His then unknown act is booed by teens just wanting to see their idols. A genius and a perfectionist, Hendrix drives everyone crazy as he starts making albums himself without producers or the Experience. Pushed by the record executives beyond his limits, he turns to drugs and wild parties for release which ultimately leads to his demise. Written by John Sacksteder <jsack...th.net>

There was supposed to be one with Andre Benjamin (a/k/a Andre3000 of OutKast) playing him. It fizzled for the reasons you stated.

I don't believe Jimi has any kids. It's similar to folks saying that Tupac had a "secret" child, but I don't believe that either. shrug

I've never seen the Hendrix film all the way with Wood Harris playing in it, just certain scenes. Even if the movie was a bust, I have to say that Wood did a pretty good job playing him. I mean it was far from when comedian Flexx played MJ in that horrible made for TV movie, urgh.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It's very much true tho, the guy looks EXACTLY like him. He was born in 1970 before Hendrix died. His last name is Hendrix and his grandfather accepted him as the son of Hendrix lol.

Picture of Jimi's half swedish son, James Hendrix, this photo is from the 90's I think. Today he's a transvesty and a happy married gay man so he doesnt look like this no more, he HATES getting questions about him playing the guitar and doesn't really have an attachment to his father more than looking like him.

We've had many threads in the past about a Jimi biopic. It will never happen because...

1) Janie Hendrix

2) As stated before: music rights

3) See number 1

As long as she is alive, there will never be an official film. Supposedly the Hughes Bros (Dead Presidents) sent a small clip of a Jimi pic/clip idea (with Andre 3000) and Janie shut it down real quick.

At this point it's not even really that exciting of an idea anymore. Here's a crazy timeline..

1982 - Talks of a Jimi biopic starring Charlie Wilson (The Gap Band) is planned.

1983 - Another Jimi biopic..starring Eddie Murphy. The directors wanted to show the comical side

of Jimi. I remember reading that in JET during that summer.

1984 - "The Electric God" is another biopic planned by Warner Bros. The film was supposed to star Jack Hammer (yes that's his name) a left handed Jimi lookalike guitarist (who knew Jimi). The directors from "Amityville Horror" were supposed to be involved..but no script was wriiten and (no surprise here) there was a problem with the music rights.

1994 - More talks of a Jimi biopic starring Laurence Fishburne. He talks about it on the Jay Leno show and says he's interested in doing it...(that would have been interesting to see Angela Bassett playing Jimi's Harlem foul mouthed girlfriend Fayne Pridgeon).

1995 - Vibe Magazine states that Al Hendrix (Jimi's dad) is interested in Jimi biopic and wants L.L Cool J to portray him.

1999 - Rumors swell that Lenny Kravitz is going to be Jimi in a movie released in 2001.

2000 - Vibe Magazine (again) says that actor Harvey Kietel is planning to direct a Jimi biopic on the last several days of his life. Q-Tip is set to play Jimi.

2004 - See Hughes Bros- Andre 3000 mention.

...do we see a pattern here? This film will never be made. I really don't think Jimi's aura and vibe can be catched on film. I know Oliver Stone did it with Jim Morrison but he caught a lot of criticism and flack.

Yeah I'm now against anyone being filmed for a biopic because you never get the true essence of who that person was... I was touched by Ray Charles' film until I realized half of that shit was fake for Hollywood purposes.

Yeah they overexaggerate events in the film. They never showed Ray drinking gin all the time or weed for example lol; Ray and his wife were divorced before "Georgia on My Mind" became the state song for Georgia; of course reenactments on some events were not accurate at all (i.e., Ray being confronted by a gang of protesters).

I'd take a really good biography (book) or an in-depth documentary about Hendrix any day over an almost certain to be disappointing Hollywood bio pic.

Jimi was a druggie. So Wiz wouldn't be far out of character.

But of course if not he can still do it........
