The story of psychedelic soul band Sly and the Family Stone kicks off a new 8-episode season of TV One’s “Unsung,” the NAACP Image Award-winning series celebrating the lives and careers of successful artists or groups who, despite great talent, have not received the level of recognition they deserve or whose stories have never been told. Also set for this summer are episodes on R&B songstress Angela Bofill, rap collective Arrested Development, the late Gerald Levert and 70s band Con Funk Shun. TV One Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Production Toni Judkins states: “While we have now produced several dozen episodes of Unsung, it t is remarkable that we have no shortage of incredibly talented candidates for new episodes – and our audience continues to want more. The winter 2012 season of Unsung was our highest-rated, most-watched season ever, and we look forward to celebrating with our viewers more amazing stories of great talent this summer and helping to paint that richer portrait of black music in America.” Rounding out “Unsung’s” summer slate are rapper Kool Moe Dee and Motown group The Marvelettes. Sly Stone is not unsung and I really dislike that they are starting to do the 90s, when so many earlier era acts are Unsung "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Still gonna check it out anyway
Should be interesting | |

I'm with you on that. Please don't start doing 90s acts already??! What about the following people from the 70s and 80s?
Grace Jones Cheryl Lynn Pointer Sisters Grandmaster Flash & the furious five Betty Davis
That being said, I still can't wait to see the new series. I really love this show!

You guys want a lot but you dont understand some of the artists are not interested in these type of shows at all. It takes a lot of leg work to get these type of shows done.Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

This is a VERY good point. Lots of these potential people must see the mixed affect Unsung has had on some of those featured. There are def down sides to doing this show.
I also expect there are music clearance issues and/or finding enough footage on some obscure acts to even make up a good "1 hr" show.

As for Sly, he stopped performing rather suddenly, true....but he's remained a very vibrant influence all the way thru.
Perhaps they are now using "big names" to keep folks interested in the smaller obscure artists? Meh

I'm wondering if they are gonna interview Louis McCall's wife. invite some of the members to reunite including her late husband. She dished some dirt on them too. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Yeah, she is bitter. She has even posted some less-than-flattering comments at Amazon (check out the reviews of their remasters). If Unsung interviews her, she's gonna talk alot of trash.

I don't like Lou Rawls, but I will say he is Unsung "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
